I am trying to use mailmerge to print tickets. I tried using a column of sequential numbers on a spreadsheet and inserting that as a field into the mailmerge, but oddly, it used number 8 eight times on the first page, number 16 eight times on the second page, etc. So, I tried using a sequencing field as you describe. It worked great for the first page (numbers 1-8) but when I completed the mailmerge, it repeated numbers 1-8 on each successive sheet. What do I have to do to make this work in a mailmerge?
Some drawbacks to this feature are that you lose a little control when you are typing. Word formats for you and some users do not like this. Also, on certain items, you will get a number when you do not expect or need one. For example, you have an attorney whose name begins with an initial (A. George Smith). When you type the name and press ENTER, the first initial "A." converts to an automatic number.
This is how I see it. A person (passenger) makes a reservation. If the person has never made a reservation before, then they are added to the passenger table, But it really makes no sense to assign a sequential number to the passenger. Otherwise, an entry, just needs to be made in the reservations table. The Reservation needs to include the specific train (number and date so there should be a table for train schedules so all you need is a foreign key), the passenger and date of travel. Here I can understand wanting a sequential number to show passengers booked in a day.

Hello, When I enter 100, it display 1, When I enter 1000, it display 10, ChefChaudart, Is that bad ? That is one of those things that everyone runs into you change the option and it doesn't seem to do anything so you leave it changed. If you enter a decimal point everything is normal i.e. 1000. or 1000.50 but if you fail to enter a decimal point your option in Tools, Options, Edit (tab), [x] fixed decimals 2 will be used. Remove the checkmark and you'll be fine. You can try that on your boss at April Fool's time as long as their not doing your sal...

For years, I've applied an autonumbered style to the first cell I want to be sequentially numbered. When I add rows, the cells immediately below continue that same numbered style whether I add them by tabbing from the end of the last row or by using the commands to inserts rows above or below. Because the numbering is part of a style, it can continue from one table to another, but it can always be restarted. I can even skip a row by changing the style for the particular cell or by just toggling off the numbering. I also use it to show two levels of numbering in a single cell by creating two autonumbered styles in a hierarchy that works just like Heading 1 and Heading 2.

Thank you for posting screenshots with the written directions. Very helpful! In June 2012, I helped set-up the Normal template with Styles for our 35 computers (Word 2010). I’ve been using some QuickParts for certificate of service and signature blocks on my own computer. Now I can add the numbering for discovery and re-deploy with the automatic numbering built in. Thanks!!
Our purchasing agent would like to be able to have the customers PO# from the Sales Transaction Entry screen show up on the PO's. Is this doable in Report Writer or can it not be done? We are using GP v9.0. As I still consider myself a newbie with RW, I would appreciate detailed instructions if possible. Thank you in advance for all responses. It is not possible thru traditional table relationships in Report Writer. Let me explain: you can certainly link the Purchase Order Work table to the SOP_POLink table and the SOP_POLink table to the SOP Transactions Work table, but will...

I would like to create a custom application that has the ability to maintain the items that are on certain Task Pads within POS 2009. These items would all be regular menu items (ex: hamburger, hot dog, french fries, etc) and not functions. For example, if a task pad was supposed to allow the cashier quick access to daily specials, then this custom application would need to be able to clear the task pad each day and add the items for that day. Is this going to be possible? Please provide some guidance. Thank you, Sean This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_00...
If you know in advance that you need outline numbering for your paragraphs, you will want to choose the correct format from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. Applying one of the preset formats to a paragraph or paragraphs that are already bulleted or numbered applies it to the entire list. There is a specific tab for outline numbers — the Outlined Numbered tab.
Instead of working harder than you need to, insert a one-column table with as many rows as necessary to accommodate your list. Then, using Word's numbering feature, number that column. Finally, convert the table to text. The resulting list is a fixed numbered list, so you'll have to live with its limitations; when you can do so, this method definitely beats most alternative solutions.
