Ole’s tale: “Late night. The pale glow from the monochrome monitor of my Compugraphic phototypesetter. The smell of the office standard ‘French Vanilla’ coffee—warming, now, for several hours and resembling nothing so much as battery acid. The gentle snoring of one of the staff writers, who is curled up in the warmth of the unit that holds the filmstrips containing the fonts I’m using to set his story.
My quick process involves setting up a row of plaques with a01, a02, a03, thru a09. Then copy the plaques to the clipboard. Run the REPLACE TEXT feature to replace “a” with “1”. Move row down and paste clipboard back into page. Run REPLACE TEXT to replace “a” with “2”. Repeat until I get all the numbers. It’s faster than manually typing the numbers in but I know there’s go to be someway of automating the process.
3. Define Document Sequences: You enter a sequence Name and enter Oracle Cash Management as the Application that “owns” the sequence. You can also specify Effective From and To dates and the sequence numbering Type (Automatic, Gapless, or Manual).
A sequence is a user-defined schema-bound object that generates a sequence of numeric values according to the specification with which the sequence was created. The sequence of numeric values is generated in an ascending or descending order at a defined interval and may cycle (repeat) as requested. Sequences, unlike identity columns, are not associated with tables. An application refers to a sequence object to receive its next value. The relationship between sequences and tables is controlled by the application. User applications can reference a sequence object and coordinate the values keys across multiple rows and tables.

It sounds like what should be page 63 has been defined as a section start. Does it have a triangle above it? This would be why the numbering format is different. Select that page and go into the Numbering & Section Options and deselect Start Section. This should continue your numbering.
Hello Nikoforos, welcome to GS.DE and thanks for your answer. Although your answer is very creative, and a good workaround for people who need sequential numbers inside an AI file, it doesn’t really answer the question. The OP is asking for a technique to add a number to a static document at the time of printing. – PieBie Mar 4 ’16 at 8:42
Now for the slightly hard bit. If you just try and complete your merge now, you’ll get several pages of tickets. Each page will have four tickets on it. But all tickets on any page will have the same number. Each page will have a different number, but all the tickets on that page will have the same number. That’s no good. You need each ticket to have a different number.
I answer readers’ questions about Microsoft Office when I can, but there’s no guarantee. When contacting me, be as specific as possible. For example, “Please troubleshoot my workbook and fix what’s wrong” probably won’t get a response, but “Can you tell me why this formula isn’t returning the expected results?” might. Please mention the app and version that you’re using. I’m not reimbursed by TechRepublic for my time or expertise, nor do I ask for a fee from readers. You can contact me at email@example.com.
I need to be able to automatically number pages with a preset. Coreldraw can already do what I need using the PageNumbering macro but I have to enter the individual settings for each template every time. I simply want the included PageNumbering macro but with the option to save 5 presets. If possible I would like the option of saving the presets to a file that can be shared with other workstations so I don’t have to manually recreate.
The expression: Nz(DMax(“[PONum]”,”tblPO”),0)+1 will check if a PONum already exists. If it doesn’t it returns a 1, if it does it returns the number incremented by 1. If the number exists, but is 0 it will return a 1. In my blog I advise that number should NOT be generated until the user is ready to save the record. And to immediately commit the record after generating the number. Therefore, there should be no issue about giving them a new number if they go back to it.
2. Yes, The code should be entered using CodeBuilder. Where you enter it depends on how and when you want to trigger the generation of the next number. If you want to use a button, that works. And no, you don’t use 000 in the NZ() function. If you want to DISPLAY at least 3 digits with leading zeros, then you do that in the Format function. Note, though, you will need to change that when you hit 1000 POs.
After doing all the post processing of my RAW file and saving as JPEG, the dialog changes the file number to one that has been used before and asks if I want to replace it. It is usually a number a few back. I have to manually change the number to match the original. Sure slows things down and if I’m not vigilant could end up overighting a file.
We use the auto page numbering trick here, the trick is to do it as spreads. You just make your pages the same size as the ticket with crops and bleeds. Then set up the shell on the master page and place your auto page number where you want your numbers. Each pages is the next number. You can also have two sets of numbers for perforated ticket. You then can use the page start options to add to the numbers and keep the same number of total numbers. For example you would do a new page start after number 99. 0001 to 0099 so it doesn’t add two “0’s” to the front of 100 and you get 00100 when you want 0100. Works great for small quantities, we have done up to 1000+ tickets and once you do it once or twice it is a snap to set up. To avoid having to do 1000 pages just send the tickets in groups. Usually between 25 to 100 at a time works good depending on artwork file size. Just save each time before sending to printer and name the file with what the tickets are. Like “MyTickets-0001-0100.Indd”. Makes it easier to go back if you have a problem. You can even do two rolls of tickets if your using 12 x 18 sheets by flipping the sheet and doing one row along the top and one along the bottom on reverse side. That is if your ticket is single Sided. Two sided tickets are a bit trickier. 🙂
Here, the field code SEQ is the winning choice. SEQ is a sequence numbering code often used for things like figures or illustrations (think “Figure 1”). What makes it an ideal choice here is the ability to name each sequence separately. In other words, we can define one numbering sequence for interrogatories, another one for requests for production, and a third one for requests for admission. Microsoft Word will be able to keep each numbering sequence separate because each will have a distinct name.
The sequence object generates numbers according to its definition, but the sequence object does not control how the numbers are used. Sequence numbers inserted into a table can have gaps when a transaction is rolled back, when a sequence object is shared by multiple tables, or when sequence numbers are allocated without using them in tables. When created with the CACHE option, an unexpected shutdown, such as a power failure, can lose the sequence numbers in the cache.
First, you have to use YOUR field and control names. The ones I use are samples. The error you are getting indicated you do not have a control named txtProject. So you have to substitute the correct name of the control. bound to the ProjectID field. By the way it is not a good idea to the octothorpe(#) as part of a field name. A controlname may http://thedailyrant.net different from a fieldname. The name property of a control is on the Other tab in the Properties dialog.
You can change the numbers in the list by restarting the sequence or by specifying a new start number. You can change the list’s style. You can do anything to this list that you can do to a normal numbered list because it is a numbered list, with one exception: the list, while easy to format, is fixed. If you delete an item, the list updates accordingly, but I haven’t found a way to add numbers.
To make sure people get their prizes, give them lots of room to print their name, address, and phone number. Some people are leery about giving out their address, but do make sure you get a printed name and phone number.

I finally was able to make the code work by making the Sequence field a text field instead of a long integer and adding the If Then argument below. Here is the code I added to the save record button’s “On Click” event procedure:
You lost me by step 14. I couldn’t understand where to create the no. 2… onwards, and how to save this label file, (which gets saved as a separate word file) and how to bring it in my table that I created in my original file.
1. Create a text frame on the Master page, while dragging, split the frame horizontally and vertically using arrows on the keyboard (Gridify your frame), this way all frames are threaded, you may do the same on both pages of the Masters (Spread) but make sure you link last frame of left Master page and first text frame of right Master page.
If you have already developed a set of specific code numbers that you want to use to track and categorize customer responses, you can type these numbers into a column of the data source that you plan to use for the mail merge.
This macro will only run on one computer. For another computer will need a new key. It is impossible to transfer the old key to another PC. For activation will be used the data of your computer’s configuration. If you have a number of activations more than 1 you can leave them for future activations or use for other computers. If the limit of activations is ended you need to purchase this macro again. Macro updates are free (usually).
Step 4: And it will expand the dialog, in the lower left panel, create your own sequential numbers and specify the sequence name and prefix or suffix as you like. At the same time, you can preview the result of your customized sequence in the lower right list box. See screenshot:
I am trying to use mailmerge to print tickets. I tried using a column of sequential numbers on a spreadsheet and inserting that as a field into the mailmerge, but oddly, it used number 8 eight times on the first page, number 16 eight times on the second page, etc. So, I tried using a sequencing field as you describe. It worked great for the first page (numbers 1-8) but when I completed the mailmerge, it repeated numbers 1-8 on each successive sheet. What do I have to do to make this work in a mailmerge?
