I am creating a file in inDesign for a client that is asking for numbered tickets. They’d like to be able to print a specific number for each ticket. I’ve read some of the older answers for similar questions that refer to Data Merge, but I’d prefer not to take that route if avoidable. What I’d ultimately like to do is create a space for the numbers to go, select the number of pages within the Print menu, and have the spaces populate with the corresponding numbers while printing.
I had the same problem and found out the same thing, that it’s the order of http://thedailyrant.net that seem to govern the lists numerical order. It felt intuitive that the order in the layer-panel should be where this could be managed, although perhaps there’s some reason for why that isn’t a good idea that I havn’t thought of.
This tip is great but it doesn’t tell me how to start w/a number other than 1. I need to create a sheet of numbered labels starting w/1702. No matter how I enter it the only number that changes sequentially is the 1st number so my second label is 2702
Even though it looks like I clicked on the numbering button at the top, I did not. I applied the list number style. That style has different indents and a different font. Those are the settings in the List Number Style.

Next, we’re going to put in the two switches that are required to make this numbering sequence work. First, I’m going to use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.), but you can use any of the number formats listed under Formatting on the left. Just click the number format you want, then click Add to Field to add that switch to the Field Codes:
Gift certificates and promotional coupons can play an important role in your marketing strategy by drawing new and repeat customers to your business. However, how can you tell if they are really working to help you develop your business? Many special interrogatories follow the same pattern wherein the lead interrogatory requests identification of all facts regarding a particular issue and follow up contention interrogatories request for the identification of all documents and all persons with knowledge.
When the context menu opens, look for the choice Edit Field…. If it doesn’t exist, then your template doesn’t use the SEQ function. If it does exist, click on it. When the next window opens, you should see SEQ in the Advance field properties box. That template definitely uses SEQ.
I have created a fill-able form in which i want to have the Work Order “WO” field generate a sequential number when I open the master form. When I save and close the form I want the number to remain the same and and generate a new number. I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC..

No, Since you will be starting with a 3 digit number initially, then you don’t need to use the Format function to pad with leading zeros. And since you won’t be using the Format function, then there will be no problem when the number goes to 4 digits.
This does not work well with duplicate values. When you compare duplicate values, discontinuous row numbering occurs. If this is not the behavior that you want, you can avoid it by hiding the rank column when you insert the result in a spreadsheet; use the spreadsheet numbering instead.
See attached. I’ve replaced your manual numbering with Word’s Heading Styles using multi-level list numbering. Adding a new row to the table will result in that row’s numbering incrementing. Changing the heading level will re-set the numbering accordingly.
To recap, you use a DMax function to return the highest number in the Sequence and increment it by 1. You assign the incremented number to a control on your form and then immediately save the record. If your identifier includes additional information from the record, you use an expression that concatenates that information with the sequence number to display the full identifier.
