This may be a toughie, I use Word to print out order forms for my shop, right now I use a stamp to give each one a unique number just for reference (you know the ones with the dials that updates whenever use). Anyways was wanting to somehow make a macro or something in Word that will automatically increment a order number on the form as I print them.
If an unwanted character appears at the beginning of the page number (so that, for example, a jump line reads “Cont’d on page A16” instead of “Cont’d on page 16”), you probably included a section prefix in the Numbering & Section Options dialog box. Turn off or edit the prefix.
How can I print 40 copies of a single page document with a serial number in the body? Serial numbers are like: ABCnn. Where ABC is fixed and nn=serial number from 1 to 40. BTW this is for word 2000 or 2003.
2. Check the existing document for prepopulated ticket numbers. Some Publisher templates include these. Click any numbered box http://mywebspider.com enable it, then click the “Delete” key to remove it, as you want to start your own sequence. Scroll through any other pages that may have been included with the template, and remove all of the sequenced numbers.
If you will be sending it to a print shop, go ahead and give them a call, they may have a numbering machine and for a small fee be able to alleviate that concern. If a five minute call can save the hassle of all those work arounds it seems to me it would be quicker.
Thank you for these instructions!! I’m using them to auto number my son’s baseball team raffle tickets which we hand numbered last year (UGH!). I followed the instructions exactly but for some reason the numbering is starting at 2 every time. I did deselect the checkbox about the column headers which seems the obvious culprit. Any ideas? I’m using Word on a PC. Thanks!!
Type in a List Name. If you are going to be working with separate chapters in a book, uncheck Continue Numbers from Previous Document in Book. Click OK. (Note: you can update this dialog box after you have created your list via Type > Bullets & Numbering > Define Lists > [Your list name] > Edit.)

WordTemplatesBundle.com currently has 6 different templates available for free. Two of them are run-of-the-mill tickets that would be great for things like an office or classroom draw. The other four are the ones that are most helpful as they do automatic serial numbering.
I was referring to a numbering machine, not a press. The job could be output on a copier and then run through a separate numbering machine. We have that setup in our shop, it’s very simple and to just run through a numbering machine is very inexpensive.
On to Subhead 2. This one looks exactly like the settings for Subhead 1, but the level is now 3, and the number style “^H.^2.^3^t” is now calling in the level 3 number, i.e., “1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, etc.”
If your law firm does litigation work, you’ve probably prepared lots of discovery. And you may have wondered if there’s any way you can (a) avoid typing the phrase “Interrogatory No. X” in Microsoft Word over and over again and (b) get that X to be an automatically incrementing number.
Tip Outlined Numbered Lists give you the option to use numbering and bullets in the same scheme. Select the particular level, and in the Number Style field, scroll down and choose one of the bullet choices for that level.
There is very simple solution that we use and that is to lay out the sheet say 6 up on a A4 sheet as a master page and in document setup set the number of pages to 1,000 if that is the amount you require. Put a page number on each ticket on the page and although they will all have the same number on each page, we put the the first two letters of the customers business name before each number followed by the letters of the alphabet so it then reads for example BT1A, BT2A, BT3A, BT1B, BT2B, BT2C and so on as each page is printed.
2. Type “1” (without quotes here and throughout) in the cell, press “Enter,” type “2” in the next row, and then press “Enter” if you want the numbers to remain the same even if the rows are subsequently rearranged. Type “=ROW(A1)” in the cell, and then press “Enter” if you want the numbers to change if the rows are rearranged.
Since Word 2000 applies outline numbering by default, as you press TAB or SHIFT+TAB in a numbered list, you are moved to the next or previous outline level. If you are in a numbered list that has outline numbering generated by the method described in the previous exercise, when you choose Bullets and Numbering from the Format menu (or alternate-click a portion of the numbered list), the Numbered tab appears on the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. However, if you first select the entire list and choose Bullets and Numbering from the Format menu, the Outline Numbered tab from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box is selected.
We created a spreadsheet with numbers running in one column in 4-out number groups: 1, 251, 501, 751, etc. and use the multiple records set-up. Our recent challenge was to take that spread sheet and do the 4-out number groupings in threes for reverse collate 3-part NCR on a copier. Takes a bit of time to set up but worth it in the long run.

We require at least 20% extra numbers for overs (extra numbers in-case some are discarded due to quality control – for example: if you order 100 cards, you will receive at least 100 finished product, but the sequential numbering might go up to 120 because 20 of the cards had to be discarded during quality control).
The learning curve was a bit steep but once I got the hang of it – no problem. Print, perf & cut….can have 1000 tickets done in an hour if necessary. You can change number size, font, color, alpha prefix, add pix & graphics…….
Sequential numbering printing refers to printing numbers in sequential order on sets of forms or other printed pieces. Each form or piece gets a unique number and is printed in either ascending or descending numerical order.
First of all let me note that I’m a novice at this, never used the VB editor before. I’m making an invoice template for work, but I keep getting this error “Compile error: Expected line number or label or statement or end of statement” I went over the code a hundred times, but I can’t seem to figure out how to get it right, I hope you can help me. Here’s the code I used: Sub CreateInvoiceNumber() Invoice = System.PrivateProfileString(“C:UserstomheffelsDocumentsInvoice AGinvoice-number.rtf”, “InvoiceNumber”, “Invoice”) If Invoice = “” Then Invoice = 1 Else Invoice = Invoice + 1 End If System.PrivateProfileString(“C:UserstomheffelsDocumentsInvoice… Read more »
Each circle will need to have a number. They will be numbered sequentially from 4000 – 4499. This should work out to a total of 41.6 (42) pages. 4000 – 4011 on page 1, 4012 – 4023 on page 2, etc. etc.
I’ve been searching for the best way to create auto numbering for discovery requests: dare I say in WordPerfect I had the most amazing macros that used “counter” and creating a set of discovery was a snap. I’ve struggled to find something workable in Word. Some people use Discovery Request No. X – Interrogatory; others use Interrogatories No. X, Requests for Production No. X, Requests for Admission No. X throughout a set of discovery. There has to be a way to do this in Word, and I’ve tried several different approaches, none of which worked out that well. Would you please steer me in the right direction? Thanks very, very much.
Unlike other Microsoft Office programs, Excel does not provide a button to number data automatically. But, you can easily add sequential numbers to rows of data by dragging the fill handle to fill a column with a series of numbers or by using the ROW function.
Most changes you make to the top ticket are automatically made on all the other tickets, too. No tiring copying and pasting needed. The template shows just 5 tickets, but once you have them looking the way you want, just multiply them using copy and paste.
After years in the graphic design and art industry, there’s one thing that I can’t understand: why designers try to get along without Adobe InDesign. I’ve been using this program for many years, and it’s helped me work efficiently and productively. I’ve created this website to show everyone that InDesign is a program that you can and should learn, and the best program for layout and desktop publishing. If you’re interested, check out my book on creating an ePub with InDesign. It’s got all you need to know in order to take your eBook from the final draft to an interesting and well-formatted ePub book.
I would like to know the answer as well SSentesy, but how were you able to get the numbers to print? When I tried this with numbers to 500; 500 pages of tickets printed instead of 500 tickets with the numbers.

You may wonder whether typing 1, 2, and 3 would be easier than using the ListNum field. Although doing that may be easier initially, the value of using the ListNum field becomes apparent when you cut and paste. When a paragraph contains multiple numbered items that you move or delete, Word automatically updates the ListNum fields. Using ListNum fields assures you of accurate numbering within a paragraph throughout the document.
Note: If you turn the feature off and create your list manually, you can’t select and change the list all at once. For example, you can’t select the list and change the color of all of the numbers at one time.
As you’ve seen, the identifier is built using other data besides the sequence number. Since this other data is a part of the record, you don’t want to store this identifier since that means storing the same data twice. That’s why we use an expression to display the identifier rather than store it.
