First, you need to enter the TransactionDate first. You can’t generate the Sequence until a TransactionDate is entered. Second, you are missing a line of code. In the blog I emphasize that you have to commit the record immediately after generating the sequence. So you need that second line: Me.Dirty=False after the code you have.

Select the lines with 1 and 2 on them, then right-click and select Toggle Field Codes to display the code associated with these fields. Note: * MERGEFORMAT is added to the fields if you left the Preserve formatting during updates check box selected on the Field dialog box (this is the default).

If the second number on your raffle ticket is one higher than the first number, you must have accidentally put the <> tag after the first number (causing the next number, on the same ticket, to increase by one). You only need the <> after the second number on each ticket, so the next ticket gets a new number. (But you don’t need it on the final ticket on the **page**, because the next **page** automatically gets a new number)

It sure is possible! Numbering and Section options are available in the Pages Panel menu. These options allow you to define what page starts a section and how it should be numbered. Insert a Current Page Number marker (Type>Insert Special Character>Markers>Current Page Number) in a text frame on a page or master page (recommended), select the first page of your section, open the Numbering and Section Options dialog, and enter 200 in the Start Page Numbering at: field. Thanks for the quick reply, I think I’m a little confused by the Display aspect of this. Artifact ID is a primary key to the table I am working in and I need it to have a unique identifier that other people can search for. The previously adopted naming convention for this ID is that which I mentioned before, Collection Point ID plus a period and then a sequential number restarting at each new Collection Point ID i.e 2-1050.1, 2-1050.2, 2-1060.1 and so on. So I think I actually need to save this in the Artifact ID field. I realize this might be slightly redundant but I’m not sure how the display would work as far as searching for specific Artifact IDs in the future.

Scott, trying my best to have sequential numbering almost identical to your scenario 1 (bound control on input form which increments last number by 1). Where do I enter this code? I have a form which opens and is ready for entry of new Project Designs. To create a multi-level list, define the list and then create a paragraph style for each level you want. For example, a list with four levels requires four paragraph styles (each one assigned the same defined list). As you create each style, you define its numbering format and paragraph formatting.

I’ve even tried adding the procedure to the OpenDate_AfterUpdate field instead of with the save record control, but I can’t seem to get it to work either. The only thing that shows up in the RecordNumber field is “13” unless I manually populate the Sequence field (which misses the whole point).

If you start to type in what appears to be a numbered list, Word formats your manually typed “numbers” to an automatic numbered list. The main benefit of this option is that you do not need to click any button to start numbering and you can choose your numbering style as well. Design your ticket, use excel or libre’s version and create the numbers. Save those numbers as text, I always make the first one xxx then 001 and so on, xxx will be the master page. Use data merge from Indesign to create the master ticket, you will need to make a text box for the number. Once it looks good to you draw a text box around the whole ticket. At the bottom of the data merge tab is a button that gives you the options how you want your layout, columns or rows, etc. even has a preview. once you click create it will create another file with all your tickets sequentially numbered. It’ll be a couple of hours before I’m at work but can post the link I used to create these for the first couple of times.

What do you do when you want your first level style to be 01, 02, 03, etc. But then you want the 2nd and 3rd levels to be 2.1, 2.2, 2.1.1, 2.1.2 it keeps picking up the 0 from the first level.Sections will go beyond 10 as well and I don’t want to insert a 0 in before the level as it will read as 010, 011, 012, etc

They’re 2-up, and are folded, so each number needs to appear twice on the same page. In short, I want a page with 1/1 and 2/2, and I’m getting 1/2 and 3/4. Am I missing an obvious fix? Thank you.

If you need to apply numbering within a paragraph rather than to the entire paragraph, you use Word’s ListNum feature. Using the ListNum feature will allow you to take advantage of sequential numbering in coreldraw numbering system you’re currently using in your document (it will use the one you implemented most recently if you’re not currently using a numbering system). The ListNum Field is available in Word 97 and later and interacts with multi-level list numbering (which should be linked to styles as set forth here). Here is a brief explanation of differences between the ListNum field and the Seq field.

On a master page, create a text box. rightclick/insert special character/markers/current page number (also under the type menu). Have your ticket image on the master page too, then just create x number pages for x number of tickets.

If it’s a bug, then I cannot believe it wasn’t caught before the release.  So here it is.  I simply put artistic text down on page 1. Select the text and copy to clipboard.  Add a new page and paste the text.  On my computer, the text changes from artistic text (as copied to clipboard) to paragraph default text left justified across the center of the page.  It doesn’t matter how much text I select, it always pastes on the new page as paragraph text left justified and across the center of the page.

Indeed, CorelDRAW’s Printmerge will do exactly what you want without an external data file. Tell it to start at 65 and end @ 131 (no I didn’t misread your example, that’s a tiny “gotcha” in the Printmerge function that has been there since Corel 10 and never fixed).

Note: By default, Publisher opens the My Data Sources folder first. If you saved your data source in a location other than the My Data Sources folder, browse to the location where you saved your data source.

OK, maybe that’s where I went wrong, as a page of 6 tickets was created for me, not just one ticket.  And, I created the number sequence in Excel; was that right?  If so, I’ll try that and let you know how I came out. Thank you for answering, it means a GREAT deal to me!

Unfortunately, InDesign isn’t exactly speedy at updating these numbers when you add a bunch of pages. But it’s not hard to duplicate and reduplicate until you have a thousand or more numbered tickets.

Hello, can anyone help me with making serial numbers in this way: When I purchase 10 chairs, I want to monitor all of it by having serial numbers each of those 10 and those 10 numbers should have the prefix “CHR-” if they are chairs. “TBL” if tables, the codes are associated with the item category. BTW, items have categories predefined by beforehand on the items by relationships. So when I will want to monitor these 10 chairs, I will only have to click the “generate control numbers” button and each of those purchased items get their own control numbers.

The Sequence Field has no switch to change the interval between numbers. It is always the next integer from the last one unless you are restarting the numbering. So, if you want a sequence of odd (1, 3, 5, 7,…) or even (2, 4, 6, 8, …) numbers, how can you generate it using the SEQ field?

One other thought. It may not hurt to make option 1 a logical expresssion where it will update the number IF a number other than 0 already exists for it. It makes me think there’s an issue with the spaces I have used in my field names but I have been trying every combination of double quotes and square brackets and when writing the code in the Event Procedure I don’t get any error messages.

However, using Styles with Numbering can make this a little less annoying. Once your document is complete, the last step should be to fix the tab and update the style. It will at least prevent you from having to change each paragraph individually.

Press Ctrl+V for each additional row of labels you want. You want enough rows of labels to meet your entire needs. Thus, if you need a total of 125 labels, and you can get 3 labels per line, you should end up with 42 rows of labels.

27.- Combinar/Descombinar texto: este truco es muy poco conocido: Con un objeto de texto artístico de varias líneas, descombinamos (CTRL+K) y nos separa las líneas, cada una como un objeto de texto. Tengo un libro de actas en Word donde he puesto en el pie de página la numeración de página. Hasta aquí todo bien. Pero lo que necesito es numerar en la parte de arriba los folios por el anverso, teniendo en cuenta http://thedailyrant.net el folio nº 1 estaría formado en el anverso por la página 1 y en el reverso por la 2. If you know in advance that you need outline numbering for your paragraphs, you will want to choose the correct format from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. Applying one of the preset formats to a paragraph or paragraphs that are already bulleted or numbered applies it to the entire list. There is a specific tab for outline numbers — the Outlined Numbered tab.

When you use the sequence field, and then combine it with the AutoText capabilities of Word, you have a powerful combination for creating numbered lists in your documents. As an example of how you can do this, follow these steps:

The brackets around the tablename may be confusing Access. If you review the blog you will see I never use brackets for the table name. Other things to check. Is the Sequence control bound to the Sequence field in EvidenceDetail? Is MatterCode a text datatype?

Do it in Excel. Make a file that calculates your numbers and present the results as strings, if proper number format does not exist. Place the result into InDesign. There you can crop off the extras and add all decorations. You must change the starting day in the original excel spreadsheet. In Indesign you click Relink.

I am a little confused by your finale note paragraph. In my original try, the field in the form, I had used design wizard so it already had the field PONum on it, is this something I am supposed to change?

This is very useful but in my report I need level 1 to be at the top of several consecutive pages while level 2 and 3 etc continue to change. The problem is that level 1 wants to change on each page but I want it to be the same title for say 2 or 3 pages in a row.

Ordinarily I don’t like using the Variant type because it’s wasteful of memory and encourages sloppy programming. But the way this macro uses it — as a string when dealing with the PrivateProfileString, and as an integer when doing arithmetic — makes it necessary.

You may be tempted to place this number on a master page. That would make sense, but there’s a catch: Autonumbered paragraphs on a master page don’t update until you override them. That is, you have to Command/Ctrl-Shift-click on them to make them “kick in” and update to the correct number.

Tip  You can use these shortcut keys, the numbering button or the Style dialog box in the Format menu to apply the correct numbering level. You can also apply numbering that is linked to heading styles by clicking the Style box drop-down arrow.

The brackets around the tablename may be confusing Access. If you review the blog you will see I never use brackets for the table name. Other things to check. Is the Sequence control bound to the Sequence field in EvidenceDetail? Is MatterCode a text datatype?

For example, you would like to have your first level of numbering to be Bold and Centered. In the previous section, you experienced that when you used Outline Numbering alone, you had to format each paragraph individually to be centered. When you use styles, the centering takes place automatically once you’ve defined the style to be centered.

Of course, it’s possible, and not very hard. All you have to do is to learn how to use variables. It sounds a bit tricky at the start, but it’s dead easy. At work I use it to print 100-2000 labels at a time with different names for trophies/medallions etc. You only need to know what XML files are and how to create one.

I’m also concerned about your table design. You mentioned entering a First name. But I don’t really see that people names belong in a transaction record. Can you explain more about what you are tracking in your app and what these transactions are.

A particular report must have pages numbered consecutively from 1-12. In addition, it must have 4 un-numbered pages inserted after page 8. In the past these 4 pages have been produced as a separate file but it would be easier to combine the two documents into a single file. How can this be done?

But the blog instructions are pretty specific, if you follow them with the only changes substituting your actual field and control names, then it should work.

I am using LR 5.3 for real estate photography using bracketing of sets of 3. Then creating stacks by capture time in LR. I would like to know if I can apply a preset to ALL of a specific number of a stack (such as all #1’s, all # 2’s or all #3’s – when expanded of course) at one time rather than manually selecting all number 1’s and then adding a preset; etc?

Each document in your book can be numbered, and these numbers can be used as automatic chapter numbers. Automatic will increment from the previous document’s number, or you can choose “Same as Previous in Book” if it’s still the same chapter but broken into two or more parts, or you can arbitrarily number it anything you want to. This can save time if you have a large number of chapters that change order frequently, since the numbers will update automatically.

The script does have a list of its features on its website but unfortunately doesn’t feature a written how-to, and understanding some of the features can be a little confusing. So I’m taking it upon myself to explain it a bit.

Word includes a special sequencing field that you can use to do all sorts of numbering. You can even use the SEQ field to help create broken numbered lists. (A broken numbered list is one in which the flow of the list is interrupted by paragraphs of a different format.) I am trying to use mailmerge to print tickets. I tried using a column of sequential numbers on a spreadsheet and inserting that as a field into the mailmerge, but oddly, it used number 8 eight times on the first page, number 16 eight times on the second page, etc. So, I tried using a sequencing field as you describe. It worked great for the first page (numbers 1-8) but when I completed the mailmerge, it repeated numbers 1-8 on each successive sheet. What do I have to do to make this work in a mailmerge?

We are experiencing an almost virus-like situation with some of our dwg files. Massive file sizes that grow exponentially – even with very few entities and no xrefernces. Said files also have issues with copy-to-clipboard and paste from one dwg file to the next: objects do not paste, but dozens of sequentailly named phantom blocks are generated.

You can add a chapter number variable to your document. Like page numbers, chapter numbers can be updated automatically and formatted and styled as text. A chapter number variable is commonly used in documents that are part of a book. A document can have only one chapter number assigned to it; if you want to divide a single document into chapters, you can create sections instead.

Drag a horizontal and vertical guide onto the page. Set them both to 1p6 (18pt). To align them select the guide with the selection Tool (V) and type the number into the X and Y tab. This will ensure that the guides are set to the exact number.

I’m not sure which version of InDesign first introduced printing Thumbnails like this, but even if yours doesn’t support that, your printer driver may have a similar feature of its own. My solution for this when trying to add a number on a page between already existing numbers where to usa a current text frame of the previous number and create a new list object from there. And then I would overset that text and press the overset +-sign to place it on the page. Works perfect.

The first page of the index in my InDesign file (page “a”) begins on a left facing page in the document – but prints as a right facing page  (starts a new piece of paper).  This leaves a blank left-facing page before  Page A – and the rest of the index prints with odd pages on right and even pages on left.

If the numbers appear to be cut off, adjust the formatting and layout of your publication. For example, you may need to increase the size of the text box that contains the data field for your tracking number, or you might need to decrease the font size of the data field.

I have form with 4 text boxes. First txtBox is protocol number (this number consists of two letters, current year and increasing numbers: eg: KU-2013/0001). Next field is date field. Then I have description field (memo) and Operator name (text).

An awesome new feature to has been introduced to Microsoft Publisher 2010 is the ability to use Data Sources to create “Catalogue Pages”. This is like a Mail Merge for design documents. Now, I would have to agree that Publisher isn’t the best graphic design program in the market. But it’s certainly adequate for simple ticket designs — for example, for a school social. Let’s say we want each ticket to have a unique number and an inspiration quote. This is all possible through Publisher and a data source, e.g. an Excel Spreadsheet.

Items like AutoText are stored (in the most recent versions of Word) in a template called BuildingBlocks.dotx. (See this article for details on where this file lives, etc.). So to protect your Building Blocks, you may need to back up that template to another location, like a flash drive.

Before you complete the merge, preview the merge results to make sure that the tracking numbers will display as you want them to in your publications. Tags for EPUB and HTML: Any list paragraph will be exported as list entry upon export as EPUB or HTML. Numbers become ol tags, bullets become ul tags. I would recommend to set up the export tagging as ”[Automatic]” and specify a CSS tag. Include it once in the CSS output.
