“create sequential number labels in word raffle ticket number generator”

Unfortunately, InDesign isn’t exactly speedy at updating these numbers when you add a bunch of pages. But it’s not hard to duplicate and reduplicate until you have a thousand or more numbered tickets.

Ok, generating a random 3 digit number is a whole different thing, so I’m not going to go into that. If you want your numbers to start at 100 (to insure three digits) then change the 0 to 99. The Nz function will return the value listed if the field is Null. So the first time you execute that code, the DMax should return a Null since no numbers have been generated for the PONum field. The Nz will then substitute 99 and then increment that by 1. You can accomplish something similar by just entering 100 as the PONum for one record. .

Ah, that’s the con – this works beautifully when you are in fact exporting data but when you are viewing the query’s output in a datasheet or a form, as you scroll around, Access will be re-evaluating the rows, including a call to the RowNumber(). But when it repeatedly calls RowNumber(), of course it keeps incrementing blindly, without any regards to whether a number was already generated for that row.

You also will find the code much easier to re-use, perhaps by packaging into a class module and thus encapsulate the implementation while sharing among several forms without worrying about VBA.Collections bloating since you are just using an innate property of the Recordset object.

Microsoft Word includes fields that enable customized data insertion, including Word Count, Page Count and Sequence, which is used to create incremental counters. You can create a business plan using numbered content such as headings or paragraphs, or a simple table with numbered row blocks using the “SEQ” field name.

This could be done with a macro, but the code would need to be tailored to put the numbers where you need them. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the ‘Go Advanced’ tab.

The first thing we need to do is name this numbering sequence. I’m going to use the letters “int” for Interrogatory. Just click your mouse cursor into the Field Codes field next to SEQ, hit your spacebar to insert a blank space after SEQ, then type “int” and place another space after it.

Select this option to change the case of the text that appears in the header or footer. For example, you may want to use sentence case in your footer, even though the heading on the page appears in title case.

If your tickets don’t require sequential numbering, you can find more templates at RaffleTicketTemplates.org. The tickets there are more the standard fare. They have different sizes, layouts, and downloads for both Microsoft Word and Corel Draw.

After animating a scene from frame -45 to +45, I looked at the sequence of files in their folder and it goes like 0000, 0001, -001, 0002, -002, etc. Is there a way to get these in a sequence starting from -45 –> 0 –> +45?

(Advanced) opens the Filter and Sort dialog box, which you can use to filter using multiple criteria. You also can click Filter under Refine recipient list in the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box to open the Filter and Sort dialog box.

I normally use “Data Merge” in InDesign and use Excel (or something like it) to generate the list of numbers for me. You would copy the numbers into a text file so that InDesign can read them as the merge data source. Note that you would have one ticket on the page and then let InDesign set the other tickets on the page (you can tell the Data Merge control panel about spacing).

I need a way for the priority level to automatically adjust when I add or change sequential numbering in coreldraw item with a new priority level. I might have 6 tasks, each will have a different priority. If I add one and set it to 1, the others need to increment + by one digit. Adding one to the above the highest would see no change in the others. Adding one in the middle would spread the rest apart (e.g. I have a 3, I put a new record and put it at 3, the old 3 becomes 4, and so on (everything below it would increment one digit).

If you’ve never used macros before, your copy of Excel may have macros turned off, even for .xlsm file types. To check, use the keyboard sequence ALT+T, M, S to get to macro settings in the Trust Center dialog box. If Disable All Macros without Notification is selected, choose Disable All Macros with Notification instead. If you use this option, Excel prompts you to enable macros each time you open a file that has them.

Tip: If you are looking for a more advanced auto-numbering system for your data, and Access is installed on your computer, you can import the Excel data to an Access database. In an Access database, you can create a field that automatically generates a unique number when you enter a new record in a table.

Tip  You can always reset your numbering formats back to Word’s defaults by clicking on the Reset button in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. You will have to reset each numbering scheme individually.

You can automatically number items in your document. Most of you already know this. You can also automatically number figures, tables, illustrations, etc. If you decide to reorder those items, Word will automatically update the numbers so that the are in the correct order.

For years, I’ve applied an autonumbered style to the first cell I want to be sequentially numbered. When I add rows, the cells immediately below continue that same numbered style whether I add them by tabbing from the end of the last row or by using the commands to inserts rows above or below. Because the numbering is part of a style, it can continue from one table to another, but it can always be restarted. I can even skip a row by changing the style for the particular cell or by just toggling off the numbering. I also use it to show two levels of numbering in a single cell by creating two autonumbered styles in a hierarchy that works just like Heading 1 and Heading 2.

A particular report must have pages numbered consecutively from 1-12. In addition, it must have 4 un-numbered pages inserted after page 8. In the past these 4 pages have been produced as a separate file but it would be easier to combine the two documents into a single file. How can this be done?

I would like to know the answer as well SSentesy, but how were you able to get the numbers to print?  When I tried this with numbers to 500; 500 pages of tickets printed instead of 500 tickets with the numbers.

This does not work well with duplicate values. When you compare duplicate values, discontinuous row numbering occurs. If this is not the behavior that you want, you can avoid it by hiding the rank column when you insert the result in a spreadsheet; use the spreadsheet numbering instead.

Uniqueness is not automatically enforced for sequence values. The ability to reuse sequence values is by design. If sequence values in a table are required to be unique, create a unique index on the column. If sequence values in a table are required to be unique throughout a group of tables, create triggers to prevent duplicates caused by update statements or sequence number cycling.

If you’re a self-taught InDesign user, you may not have been introduced to automatic page numbering, one of the biggest time-saving features in the program. InDesign allows you to set up the page numbering feature in your Master Pages. Then, as you add or shuffle pages, InDesign updates individual page numbers accordingly. You can style the page number any way you like.

By default, the Running Header variables insert the first occurrence (on the page) of the text to which the specified style is applied. Running Header variables are especially useful for displaying the current heading or title in the header or footer.

We require at least 20% extra numbers for overs (extra numbers in-case some are discarded due to quality control – for example: if you order 100 cards, you will receive at least 100 finished product, but the sequential numbering might go up to 120 because 20 of the cards had to be discarded during quality control).

I would like to add multi numbers on a page on different points like first page is (01, 02, 03, 04) and 2nd page should be continued as (05, 06, 07, 08) Means I need 4 continue numbers on a single page… is that possible..?

Tip: If your data source contains records that share the same information, and there are ten or fewer unique values in the column, you can filter by specific information. For example, if there are multiple records that list Australia as the country/region, you can filter on Australia.

Basically, the only difference is that we now maintain a VBA.Collection, and this time we do make use of the UniqueKeyVariant parameter, using it as a key to locate the previously assigned number. If we don’t find it, we add to the VBA.Collection. The SQL to use those 2 functions remains identical. The downside is that if the query generates millions worth of rows, the memory may run out due to a large VBA.Collection. However, if a form is bound to that large dataset, it will likely have several other problems anyway so VBA.Collection should not be a problem for forms that loads a few hundred rows. The other downside is that VBA.Collection will persist indefinitely even long after the query has “finished.” Back to form example, you might need to remember to call the ResetRowNumber() function on a form’s close to ensure that you dispose of the VBA.Collection and free up the memory.

In this tutorial, we’ll explain how to do an easy setup in InDesign for automatically numbered raffle tickets. We will look at the handy “Data Merge Tool,” which is a great time-saver. Let’s jump into this quick tutorial!

Thanks for this tip, it is close to what I need in my requirement specification – but my problem is that I need the (requirement-)numbers to be allocated once a requirement is defined, and then stay with that value ‘forever’, and at the same time be sure to have unique (requirement-)numbers.

I have been researching using sequential numbers for invoices an purchase orders, but all of them seem to advance the number eithe every time the document is opened or saved. My purchase order is par of a larger file, and since I will be opening and saving the fil without necessarily writing a purchase order I need more control ove its advancement. I was wondering how I could create a button that whe pressed or selected would advance the number by 1? Also, how could make it create a unique number depending on who’s creating the purchas order. For example, let’s say the user is …

I have boxes with references which are located beneath pictures in my InDesign 6 document. I want to have a consistent and continueing auto-numbering of these boxes. Therefore I created two paragraph styles – one for the left page, one for the right page.

3. Formatting these page numbers is as easy as formatting any other text. Change the font family and size, color, and whatever you like, and all changes will be applied to all pages. You can add hyphens around the edges, underline, or do anything else you think will make the page numbers look appropriate to the layout.

“But what if I already have a long list of items that I want numbered.” OK, thanks to the power of Word macros, Word MVP Graham Mayor and I have put together a Word add-in that makes SEQ field list numbering as simple as ABC.

If you use numbers, you could generate a CSV-file using Excel. Start by putting the first number in the desired sequence in a cell and then drag this cell in the border downwards. Excel should now make a list of incremented values, you can export to csv.

How do I set up the basic template for text numbering in Word 2008 for the Mac? Here is what is driving me nuts: I want to generate numbered lists – lots and lots of them. The first level numbered lines will have second level under them in many cases, also numbered and indented below the first level. The second level will also have third level under them, intended some more and also numbered. This “sort-of” works fine. It USED to work excellently. Here is what I do. I click the Numbering button in the Bullets and Numbering palette. The line indents and a 1) is aut…

While Automatic Numbering is very useful, there are times when you may want to freeze numbers. This cannot be easily undone, but the process is described here: Converting Automatic Numbering to Manual Numbering

I use a little program called “Number It” I purchased on E-bay a couple of years ago. It will print the ticket (from bmp file) and number on the Canon 3200 in one pass. BW or Color. Nice little program and well worth the $50-80 price.

John, Sorry for the delay, but I was away last week with limited Internet access. I assumed if you had a Save button, you would know how to put code behind it. To see the code behind a button, Select the button in Form Design Mode and open the Properties Dialog (Right click and select properties), on the Events tab there should be something in the On Click event of the button. If you click the Ellipses […] next to the event, it will open Code Builder where you can enter the code.

Hi – are you creating your own tickets using the instructions on this page? If so, you can of course change the font and everything else in your Word document. If you are using the Raffle Ticket Creator app (app.raffleticketcreator.com) then you can’t change the font size … you’ll just need to tinker with the exact words that you are including in order to get them to fit on the page. Hope that helps!

Its not that its not as straight forward, though it is more complex. Its more that it requires a completely different method to generate a number. Plus a you would have to add checking to ensure uniqueness. Plus you then have to partially rewrite your code when you reach sequential numbering in coreldraw members.

Now, the tricky part is Cir1 will print in the same location on all 42 pages.  So 4000 will for arguments sake be the 1st circle top left corner, 4002 will be the same circle on page 2, 4003 on page 3, etc all the way through page 42.  Cir1 on page 42 will be numbered 4042.

In the demand for production of documents that is concurrently served, it will typically contain requests such as, “Please produce all documents identified in response to special interrogatory no. ___”

In the Bullet or Number Position area, choose Indent or Tab Position options to indent list items at this level farther than list items at higher levels. Indenting helps subordinate items in lists stand out.

Thanks, Scott! I was having a problem a few weeks ago getting the sequence field to populate and thought it was the data type based on another blog I read, but then added the If/Then statement. Just changed the data type back to integer and it’s working again.

If you’d rather make your tickets from scratch, take advantage of Publisher’s “Insert” tab to add your own images or draw from the “Shapes” collection. Add the numbers in the same way, starting with Step 3.

To create a multi-level list, define the list and then create a paragraph style for each level you want. For example, a list with four levels requires four paragraph styles (each one assigned the same defined list). As you create each style, you define its numbering format and paragraph formatting.

If your law firm does litigation work, you’ve probably prepared lots of discovery. And you may have wondered if there’s any way you can (a) avoid typing the phrase “Interrogatory No. X” in Microsoft Word over and over again and (b) get that X to be an automatically incrementing number.

A defined list can sequential numbering in indesign interrupted by other paragraphs and lists, and can span different stories and different documents in a book. For example, use defined lists to create a multi-level outline, or to create a running list of numbered table names throughout your document. You can also define lists for separately numbered or bulleted items that are mixed together. For example, in a list of questions and answers, define one list for numbering the questions and another for numbering the answers.

Good morning! Directions are clear for sure but when i go to merge the first ticket is one but the second number on the raffle ticket is two. i have four raffle tickets per page the first three are messed up but the forth is correct all the way down to 500. Any ideas? i have tried with a header and without a header. i even made the first number with a formula. it does work with out putting next record but like you said it is four tickets with the same number and that would use a ton of ink. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

“index name” field gives 3 options  “DATA” “SITE” “STAGE”.  Each form is to be sequentially numbered based upon its “index name” field value. E.g if 6 forms were submitted selecting the index name in the following order the numbering would be as such.

The ticket merges perfectly, prints multiple tickets per page and numbers them sequentially.  The only problem is that Publisher won’t print the 3 digit number format.  It prints 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. on the tickets.

Ok, so what don’t you understand in the blog? You will need to create a new field for the sequence number. But the blog explains how to set this all up. If there is anything specific you are having trouble with, feel free to ask.

My name is Simona Pfreundner, and I’m an independent graphic designer based in Montreal, Canada. I am a very creative woman with a big love for illustration, speak three languages, and solve problems with visual solutions in a colorful way.

Transact-SQL statements that use SELECT * will receive the new column as the last column instead of the first column. If this is not acceptable, then you must create an entirely new table, move the data to it, and then recreate the permissions on the new table.

After the { http://mywebspider.com € \r68}, insert just the { SEQ € } fields where you need them for the sequential numbering. If you copy and paste one of these fields, you’ll probably need to select in and press F9 to update it, or you could press Ctrl-A, F9 to update all fields in the document – useful if you’ve added/deleted one in an existing sequence or if you’re adding multiple such fields.

Enter the value you want to start with, and when you click OK, Word updates the numbers in the cells. You’ll also note that if you insert any rows in the middle of your numbered sequence, Word automatically adds a number to that inserted row.

The benefit to this is that you are not limited in the layout and font used, however the file size can often be too large to upload to our website. If supplying your artwork this way, it must a press-ready PDF file – our prepress team will not be able to make any adjustments to the file.

In most cases, the text resizes automatically to fit within the text box. If you want to control the text size, click the text box. On the Format menu, point to AutoFit Text, and then click Do Not Autofit. Select the text, and then choose a new font size from the Font Size list on the toolbar.

Apply the heading style to headings, and make any adjustments. For example, you may want to specify a different Next Style (such as Body) for the heading styles so that when you press Enter after typing the heading, the Body style is automatically applied to the next paragraph.Tip: In Part I, I mentioned that if you need to restart numbering within the same story, you should create a paragraph style identical to the Level 1 style, only with the numbering starting at 1. Depending on your layout, there may be a better way. If another style will always appear between the lists (such as “step heading”), specify that style as the level 1 style, and choose None for Numbering Style Format.Next, I’ll write about creating lists of figures or tables.

I tossed back a rather glib answer about using the AutoNumLgl field code to number the discovery requests, and she threw in this little wrinkle: her attorneys like to play mix-and-match with their discovery. In other words, they may put in a couple of interrogatories, then throw in a related request for production, then another interrogatory, then a request for admission that’s related to that interrogatory.

I am doing a really big catalog and so am doing a different indesign document for each section. What if for my second section, I want the numbering to start with 200 for exemple (instead of 1)… is that possible?

Go to the Insert tab > Text group, then click the Quick Parts icon. Your two new Quick Parts entries are listed in the drop-down — hover over each to see the Description you added displayed as a tooltip.

As you can see, an idea of sequential numbering can be solved many different ways using different domains. This is typical in this field of work and precisely why it pays to not just consider how you can do it in one domain but also whether the domain is the right domain. We saw how we can easily leverage built-in features such as Transact-SQL’s ROW_NUMBER() or Access report’s Running Sum property. We also not only saw how we can craft our custom solutions in either VBA or SQL but we also see how we can use both together to create a solution that is better.

Using the instructions in #5, add an incrementing SEQ field. You can highlight any of them, except the reset field. For step 7, enter n}. n is the default switch that inserts the next number in the sequence, making it easy to remember. You don’t have to specify the \n switch, because it’s the default, but you can add it if it helps document your choice.

That’s it! From now on, all you have to do to add SEQ field numbering is either type in your AutoCorrect text (1] and n]) or select the options from your Quick Parts list. If you find your numbering gets out of whack (remember, the numbers don’t update when you insert a new number between two existing numbers, or delete a number), select the sequence and press F9 (Hint: To update all fields for the entire document, press Ctrl+A then F9).

I need a running number from 1001-1200, so after I apply the print merge, it creates 200pgs of the voucher. When I try to save this file, it takes almost half an hour to do so.I think this is due to the heavy file size?In addition, the local print shop knows nothing about print merge and imposition, so I have to prepare the artwork readily in A3 size to print. The imposition creates a 10pgs files.I wanted to save this as PDF to preserve the color, but it turned out to be a nightmare (in daytime) for me that it takes more than2 hours to generate the 10pgs PDF.

In this format, ident is replaced with a unique identifier for the sequence in question. Thus, you could have several sequences in a single document. For instance, one numbered sequence could use an identifier of MajorNum1, and another use an identifier of MajorNum2. The identifiers you use are entirely up to you.

You are able to customize the numbering scheme at any time: before, during or after you apply it. You can customize all nine heading levels or only the levels you are planning to use. Some fields in the Customize dialog box are the same as the Numbered List Customize dialog box. The fields unique to Outline Numbers are:

On a master page, create a text box. rightclick/insert special character/markers/current page number (also under the type menu). Have your ticket image on the master page too, then just create x number pages for x number of tickets.

Warning  You can change the tab or remove it individually in each paragraph. BUT, each time you make a customization to your numbering scheme, the .25″ tab will reappear in all the paragraphs that are a part of the list. This behavior occurs whether the numbering is tied to styles or not.

While InDesign veterans may assume everyone already knows this, I can assure you I have worked with very sophisticated documents from designers who did not take advantage of this basic feature. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind as you tackle InDesign challenges is this: If it’s repetitious, tedious, or time-consuming, there’s probably a built-in solution right there in the program. You just need to go look for it.

I am using LR 5.3 for real estate photography using bracketing of sets of 3. Then creating stacks by capture time in LR. I would like to know if I can apply a preset to ALL of a specific number of a stack (such as all #1’s, all # 2’s or all #3’s – when expanded of course) at one time rather than manually selecting all number 1’s and then adding a preset; etc?

Step 5: Then click Add button to add your created sequence into above list box, and select the item that you are created, then click Fill Range button to insert the sequence numbers into the selected range. See screenshots:

Numbering & Section Options dialog shown next to the Pages Panel. Notice that the document is divided into three sections, the middle section using lowercase Roman numerals and an alternate master page.

2. Type “1” (without quotes here and throughout) in the cell, press “Enter,” type “2” in the next row, and then press “Enter” if you want the numbers to remain the same even if the rows are subsequently rearranged. Type “=ROW(A1)” in the cell, and then press “Enter” if you want the numbers to change if the rows are rearranged.

I work for a print shop and recently acquired CorelDraw X3 (previously used Quark). I have an order for 2,000 membership cards (3 to an 8 1/2 x 11 page which I will perforate), and I need them sequentially numbered. Is this possible on Corel? PLEASE tell me it is. I have messed with the Print Merge but apparently I’m doing something wrong.

See how easy it is to add sequential numbering to Avery products using Avery Design & Print Online at avery.com/print. Great for adding tracking numbers to items like Avery Tickets with Tear-Away Stubs.

All I want to know is, how do you link fields, like {SEQ}, to a style – so that if I select/apply style “Figure Caption” (my style, I also have “Table Caption”), I get not just the attributes of the style (what it looks like, where it is on the page etc.) but I get a chapter (or section) number + a sequence number added, (e.g. “2-3”). I know about STYLEREF and SEQ Figure # and/or calling a section number (if required) – but I can’t find out how to take the simple and to me obvious step to have sequential numbering (prefixed with either “Figure” or “Table”) attached to my Figure Caption style. It all seems to be a two-step process: (i) select the style, (ii) select the numbering. I want to do both at style level. I want to see/get (e.g.) “Figure 2-3: Linking figure numbering to styles” just by applying my “Figure Caption” style to my figure caption text “Linking figure numbering to styles”. Please, only tell me how to do that, how to link chapter/sequence numbering via a style – i.e. in just one step – applying the style.

Hi Scott, Thank you for a very informative Blog. I am however stuck. I need to create a sequence for patient record cards based on their LastName. ie For names beginning with “A” =A001, then A002, For names beginning with “B =”B001, then B002 etc.

“cómo insertar números en la palabra 2007 talones”

Now I have another problem. This code worked perfectly up to ten records. When I tried to add the eleventh record, the Sequence field won’t add any more numbers. It’s stuck at 10. This of course causes my RecordNumber field, which displays as

Annabelle – You need the tickets in the top slot of each page to run from 1 to 167, then the second slot down to be 168 – 335, then have 336 – 500 in the third slot. Easiest way to achieve that would be to create a your list of numbers in Step 3 in Excel so it runs as 1,168,336,2,169,337 … etc., like this:

So, if you wanted to use this idea in a form or datasheet, let me stop and first remind you – if this is going to be non-updatable, you can just embed a report as a subreport within a form and thus use Running Sum. But let’s discuss the case where you need to be able to edit data in the forms, even with sequential numbering generated for the data you are viewing. This means we need to be able to tie a sequential number to a specific row.

This requires no pre-knowledge of a primary key and only assumes that when you load the form initially, it is already sorted. Any records newly inserted will get the next bigger number. However, if you requery and it causes the newly inserted rows to be re-sorted, they will be now given a new number that relates to their actual position within the set, which can be either good or bad, depending on your specific requirements.

Make a FreeForm master of the file without the numbers then use Mail Merge in MS Word along with an Excel file (with your numbers) and create a file with just the numbers and let the Fiery do the rest.

However, when I click on this button in Form view it just makes the number back to 1 instead of adding 1 to the existing records. Is this because when I open the form it brings me to record number 1 and not the last record I entered?

[…] which make this an interesting alternative to the technique I showed you in “How to automatically number your discovery requests … in 5 keystrokes“. There would be no need for the SEQ field code if you wanted to create just a single […]

The Nz function will return 0 if there are no records so this expression will return a 1 the first time and then increment the highest number each additional time. The key is where to put this line of code. As I said it needs to be generated immediately prior to saving the record so that another user does not get the same number. So generally I would put this behind a Save button or a button to specifically generate the number. I would then add a second line to commit the records. Either:

The sequence object generates numbers according to its definition, but the sequence object does not control how the numbers are used. Sequence numbers inserted into a table can have gaps when a transaction is rolled back, when a sequence object is shared by multiple tables, or when sequence numbers are allocated without using them in tables. When created with the CACHE option, an unexpected shutdown, such as a power failure, can lose the sequence numbers in the cache.

You may be tempted to place this number on a master page. That would make sense, but there’s a catch: Autonumbered paragraphs on a master page don’t update until you override them. That is, you have to Command/Ctrl-Shift-click on them to make them “kick in” and update to the correct number.

WordTips is your source for cost-effective Microsoft Word training. (Microsoft Word is the most popular word processing software in the world.) This tip (92) applies to Microsoft Word 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003. You can find a version of this tip for the ribbon interface of Word (Word 2007 and later) here: Sequentially Numbering Elements in Your Document.

This kind of template is very easy and fast for creating a multitude of serialized tickets. You don’t have to change each number or manually update each field. That’s far too tedious. The lottery might be over before you’re done.

I’m writing a manual for work on my home computer with Office 2003 Publisher. Windows is XP. My husband is computer administrator. I want to copy it from from Drive C to Drive E. Computer won’t let me. It says that I’m not authorized to use E and need authorization from the administrator. How does administrator authorize for this?

“But what if I already have a long list of items that I want numbered.” OK, thanks to the power of Word macros, Word MVP Graham Mayor and I have put together a Word add-in that makes SEQ field list numbering as simple as ABC.

I urgently need a program that can auto number panels for a large drawing I have. I have a lisp program for auto numbering but we need each insertion of text to start with a P i.e. P1, P2, P3 etc etc.

GREAT tip with lots of uses! Thank you. This will save me hours of work on some tickets I’m designing. However, I also need to set up table tents that have numbers on them. They’re 2-up, and are folded, so each number needs to appear twice on the same page. In short, I want a page with 1/1 and 2/2, and I’m getting 1/2 and 3/4. Am I missing an obvious fix? Thank you.

Note: If you have already created a business information set, your business contact information and logo automatically replaces some of the placeholder text. For more information, see Create, change, or remove business information data.

Rhonda, Thank you for your amazingly quick and thorough reply! You are correct, Word does the Table and Figure numbering splendidly. I was trying to reference those numbers in the text, which I see is a function done quite well in Word using Cross Reference: ‘In Word 2007 and 2010: Display the References tab. In the Captions group, click on the Cross-reference button.’ Thanks again, Joshua.

The Insert Sequence Number utility makes it easy to insert unique sequence numbers into contiguous cells and non-contiguous ranges in Excel. What’s more, you can continue inserting the sequence numbers next time in different worksheets and workbooks.

The Pages panel can display absolute numbering (labeling all pages with consecutive numbers, starting at the first page of the document) or section numbering (labeling pages by section, as specified in the Section Options dialog box).

A multi-level list is a list that describes hierarchical relationships between the list paragraphs. These lists are also called outline lists because they resemble outlines. The list’s numbering scheme (as well as indentations) show rank as well as how items are subordinate to one another. You can tell where each paragraph fits in the list with respect to the paragraphs before and after it. You can include up to nine levels in a multi-level list.

You can combine Impose and VDP to create a multi-up Master. Use the same imposition for your variable data. If you’re creative enough, you can also make double-sided variable printing on one pass (provided the paper allows for duplex printing on your machine)

We use the auto page numbering trick here, the trick is to do it as spreads. You just make your pages the same size as the ticket with crops and bleeds. Then set up the shell on the master page and place your auto page number where you want your numbers. Each pages is the next number. You can also have two sets of numbers for perforated ticket. You then can use the page start options to add to the numbers and keep the same number of total numbers. For example you would do a new page start after number 99. 0001 to 0099 so it doesn’t add two “0’s” to the front of 100 and you get 00100 when you want 0100. Works great for small quantities, we have done up to 1000+ tickets and once you do it once or twice it is a snap to set up. To avoid having to do 1000 pages just send the tickets in groups. Usually between 25 to sequential numbering in coreldraw at a time works good depending on artwork file size. Just save each time before sending to printer and name the file with what the tickets are. Like “MyTickets-0001-0100.Indd”. Makes it easier to go back if you have a problem. You can even do two rolls of tickets if your using 12 x 18 sheets by flipping the sheet and doing one row along the top and one along the bottom on reverse side. That is if your ticket is single Sided. Two sided tickets are a bit trickier. 🙂

I replied to you on the Answers forum. Let’s continue there, but I need to know what you have done and what about is not working. Please reply there with details. But the blog instructions are pretty specific, if you follow them with the only changes substituting your actual field and control names, then it should work.

The benefit to this is that you are not limited in the layout and font used, however the file size can often be too large to upload to our website. If supplying your artwork this way, it must a press-ready PDF file – our prepress team will not be able to make any adjustments to the file.

– For instance, let’s assume that one of the cells in the table has a content description (It’s really an issue, described elaborately in at least a long sentence). The issues are different, across rows and tables and so this content changes across tables.

Hi, this is a great write up. I am very new to InDesign and i print onto a range of products and my first order with sequential numbering came up (serial numbers), I have the template made in illustrator and i also have the numbers added (00001 on all of the art work). A friend told me InDesign has a function for automatically incrasing the numbers by 1 for each art work. I have 105 pieces per template, is there a way to import the design and then sort the number (already text edible) and then save as a pdf then send to print?

Storage/saving (by default) (I understand) was to “normal.dot” somewhere on “my” C:/drive. (I.e. Nobody else in the office could “get” to the effort. So, I (as attorney), and each secretary, lawyer, and paralegal, had to work in their own “silo” and “reinvent” any such Auto Text blocks). [I.e. Query – Is there any way to save a consistent set of such Auto Text blocks for MS Word to a shared “network” drive, or similar, in a law office?).

Note: Keep in mind that what you are saving is not the set of coupons or gift certificates that you have printed. Rather, you are saving the publication with its connection to your data source and its placeholder fields. By saving the publication, you can quickly create another set of coupons or gift certificates when the need arises. The publication maintains the link to the data source that you connected it to so that you can jump ahead to the previewing step.

The ticket merges perfectly, prints multiple tickets per page and numbers them sequentially.  The only problem is that Publisher won’t print the 3 digit number format.  It prints 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. on the tickets.

The expression: Nz(DMax(“[PONum]”,”tblPO”),0)+1 will check if a PONum already exists. If it doesn’t it returns a 1, if it does it returns the number incremented by 1. If the number exists, but is 0 it will return a 1. In my blog I advise that number should NOT be generated until the user is ready to save the record. And to immediately commit the record after generating the number. Therefore, there should be no issue about giving them a new number if they go back to it.

Your code looks correct. What do you mean by it doesn’t work? When that code is run, txtAlphaCount should show the next number in sequence. You need to explain further. Also where are you putting that line of code?

You’ve got some tips to help make your raffle more successful. You’ve got several free Word ticket templates to choose from. You know how to sequentially number tickets in two different ways. I find that one of the most frustrating aspects of list numbering is “How do I start again with number 1?!!” Believe me, it is no small feat. MVP Margaret Aldis helps scale that peak by presenting us with several methods in her How to Restart Style-Based Numbering.

To end the list (or list segment, if the list is to be continued later in the story), click the Bulleted List sequential numbering in coreldraw Numbered List button in the Control panel again, or choose Bullets And Numbering from the Paragraph panel menu.

Can anyone help with a solution for sequential form numbering either via nintex forms or workflow. In order to meet a client specification I’m looking to create multiple sets of sequentially numbered forms within a list.

Next we will look at scenario 2. The variation here is that Apex wants to start each year with anew sequence of numbers. Also, they want to include the year when displaying this number. We still use a DMax, but we need to add criteria to determine the year. So Apex needs to have a field in their table that indicates the date. Generally, such inquiries will have a date/time stamp to indicate when received or the user will input the date and time. So we will assume there is a field in record called InquiryDate. We will also add an Integer field named Sequence. On the form we will add a control bound to Sequence, but set its Visible property to No. The line of code will look like this:

This is how I see it. A person (passenger) makes a reservation. If the person has never made a reservation before, then they are added to the passenger table, But it really makes no sense to assign a sequential number to the passenger. Otherwise, an entry, just needs to be made in the reservations table. The Reservation needs to include the specific train (number and date so there should be a table for train schedules so all you need is a foreign key), the passenger and date of travel. Here I can understand wanting a sequential number to show passengers booked in a day.

Click the Bulleted List button  or the Numbered List button  in the Control panel (in Paragraph mode). Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while clicking a button to display the Bullets And Numbering dialog box.

You won’t use any of the standard List Number styles for SEQ field numbering. You need to create your own style if you want correct indentation and alignment with the tab position of the first word after the number. In this example, I’ll create a new style called Step Number, but you can call it whatever you want. In this example, I’ve also used the default settings for tab and hanging indent positions — you can change these later if you want.

Hello guys, I am on a project of making 12,500 tickets and so far, I’m at 500 out of 12,500 .. -_-” I was just wondering if Photoshop or other Adobe programs can Add Sequential Numbers on a particular area ON a picture,

When you choose a numbering format or use Word’s default, it not only provides you with numbering settings (1,2,3 or A,B,C, etc), you also receive other formatting as well such as indents and tabs. In order to satisfy different user’s styles of numbering, you may need to customize the list accordingly.

Learn how to sequentially number tickets in multiple locations like tickets that have a stub. I know that I can select all of the clips and then move the play head to approx 1/10 of a second and split the clips. This works except I have to go through and manually delete the bits I don’t want which is tedious enough for a video with 82 images but I am planning on longer projects, doing it manually would be a nightmare. Also I could probably re-order the images manually but I am sure that there must be an easier.

CK NOTE: Before attempting troubleshooting, read the article listed in the additional reading “Word’s Numbering Explained.” After you read that article, you may also want to look at the following links to some discussions on the Microsoft newsgroups on numbering.

I have boxes with references which are located beneath pictures in my InDesign 6 document. I want to have a consistent and continueing auto-numbering of these boxes. Therefore I created two paragraph styles – one for the left page, one for the right page.

I’m trying to create vouchers in Publisher with sequential numbers. I’m printing multiple ones per page. However, when I add in insert page number it adds a 1 to all of them. I need to be able to print out 1-24,000. Please help. Thanks.

2. In Excel first type a 1 in the top cell and a 2 in the cell below that, than select both cells and grab the very small handle in the bottom right part of cell 2, and then just drag downwards to have Excel fill in the numbers.

To enter specific sequential number codes, such as purchase order numbers, you can use the ROW function together with the TEXT function. For example, to start a numbered list by using 000-001, you enter the formula =TEXT(ROW(A1),”000-000″) in the first cell of the range that you want to number, and then drag the fill handle to the end of the range.

I have a job that requires me to make a serial number for each part. There is 480 parts per tray, 2400 parts a week and somehow 19,000 parts a month. So I need to find a way to have a sequence of numbers that increase by one without manually having to input each number each time before a print.

The best way to do this is to use a primary key. In cases where a query is complex and joins several tables, we may need to use the primary key of the table that’s on the bottom of the relationship hierarchy or possible a concatenation of multiple tables’ unique key so that the expression will be unique and thus we can identify which sequential number we have assigned.

I get an error with this code but it is something I literally copied from a post in this thread where you said it works every time and simply replaced the names of fields and tables with those of my project.

Hi, I need to start my requests for admission with number 2798. I tried what was suggested in the comments, but nothing worked for me. I keep getting an error message. I am using Word 2007. I appreciate your feedback!

Use the Bullet or Number Position section of the New Paragraph Style dialog box to change the indent spacing. For example, to create a hanging indent, type 2p for Left Indent and ‑2p for First Line Indent.

I have just started to try something using video in CS6. I have 82 sequential images and I am trying to string them together as a sort of stop motion film (think the intro to the Monkeys). I have done the following:

indicating the tenth inquiry of 2009. You can use that as the Controlsource of a control on a form or report. In a query you would preface with an Alias rather than the equals sign (i.e.; Inquiry Code:).

My solution for this when trying to add a number on a page between already existing numbers where to usa a current text frame of the previous number and create a new list object from there. And then I would overset that text and press the overset +-sign to place it on the page. Works perfect.

If you don’t want to use one of the existing bullet characters, you can add other bullet characters to the Bullet Character grid. A bullet character that is available in one font may not be available in another font. You can choose whether the font is remembered with any bullet character you add.

3. Select the cell(s) you just modified. Click the small square handle on the bottom right corner of the selected cell(s), and then drag down the column to select the range of cells in which you want to insert the number sequence. When you release the mouse button, Excel automatically inserts a number in each cell.

If you try to set up a numbering scheme to do this, you will notice that your number disappears when you press ENTER to type the text or the text may seem off-center. The following exercise walks you through centering text beneath a number.

Unlike other Microsoft Office programs, Excel does not provide a button to number data automatically. But, you can easily add sequential numbers to rows of data by dragging the fill handle to fill a column with a series of numbers or by using the ROW function.

How do I renumber a page, starting at any number, eg 120.Reason: I have a catalog, divided into 4 files, gives the first page 1 to page 50, the second page gives the 51 to 100 and so on .. are 214 pages .. how do I get in this second part, put the number of pages, starting with page 51?

In summary, paragraph numbering is really just an exercise in logic, and this blog post is showing the numbering styles for a very specific project. Your project may be similar, but not exactly the same. You just need to think though the levels and how you want to restart the numbers. I do my best to think it through correctly the first time, set it up, and then try as hard as I can to break it, so that I can find my errors. The good news is that once you get your numbers working, you shouldn’t ever have to think about it again.

For those who would prefer a standalone program with even more features, you can get the commercial version ($10) of Numbergen from MacroMonster. You’ll note that the sequence of numbers can be formatted for either CorelDRAW or Microsoft Word. If you do any numbering, you’ll find the commercial version well worth every penny.

BUT they did inspire me to find a solution! The answer is to use mail merge in Word.  Create an excel sheet with 200 (or whatever) sequential numbers in a column, then pull those from Word with the mail merge function.  Each sheet will have an individual serial number printed on it.

It’s also possible to consecutively number list items in InDesign. Create a text frame for your list and click the numbered list button to insert a list. Type your list items, pressing your “Enter” key between items. InDesign consecutively numbers the list automatically; you can change the number it begins with and the style of the numerals. Press your “Alt” key (Windows) or “Option” key (Mac OS) while clicking on the numbered list button to open a dialog where you can modify those options.

To get this type of sequence, you add a ‘zero’ switch (as partially described here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/insert-and-format-field-codes-HA010338798.aspx). Your field codes should look like this:

Using Microsoft PowerPoint’s numerous formatting tools can significantly improve the quality of your business presentation. Sequentially numbered lists can help you more effectively organize the information on a slide. In addition to illustrating the required order of list items, a numbered list can help you visually break up large chunks of information, making it easier for your audience members to identify key points as you speak. Creating a numbered list in PowerPoint requires only a few clicks.

“index name” field gives 3 options  “DATA” “SITE” “STAGE”.  Each form is to be sequentially numbered based upon its “index name” field value. E.g if 6 forms were submitted selecting the index name in the following order the numbering would be as such.

One of the easiest ways to track the success of marketing pieces like gift certificates and coupons is to add a tracking number or code to each gift certificate or coupon that you distribute. When gift certificates or coupons are redeemed, you can use these tracking numbers to record and categorize customer responses.

In order to insert the data field, select the little arrowed cursor from the Print Merge Flyout menu, and click on Cir 1, then insert that in your first circle.  With the regular pointer tool, select the text that says and adjust its attributes as you would any other text.  It owuld be easier to add all 12 data fields, then adjust them all at the same time.

So, you’d have a text frame that you could start with 0 (not sure if it’d be hard to do 0000) and loop up to whatever you need, printing each time. I don’t know if you can avoid a print dialog, but if you can that should make this pretty seamless.

Number Position This affects how numbers line up in a document, whether they are right, left, or center aligned. For example, you may want decimals to align for lists with double-digit numbering and thus would choose Right alignment. Settings in this area do not affect the text however.

The WooCommerce Sequential Order Numbers Pro plugin allows your store to have sequential, rather than random, order numbers. Additionally you can customize your order numbers by setting a starting number, order number length, and custom prefixes and suffixes. Instead of your order numbers looking like 15, 16, 37, and so on, they could now be WT-01000-UK, WT-01001-UK, or whatever format you prefer!

If you want to add more lines of text under the first line of a numbered paragraph and you would like to line the text up, one solution is to insert a line break. A line break gives you a new line without a new paragraph. In WordPerfect, this is called a soft return. To get a line break, press SHIFT+ENTER.

I am trying to use mailmerge to print tickets. I tried using a column of sequential numbers on a spreadsheet and inserting that as a field into the mailmerge, but oddly, it used number 8 eight times on the first page, number 16 eight times on the second page, etc. So, I tried using a sequencing field as you describe. It worked great for the first page (numbers 1-8) but when I completed the mailmerge, it repeated numbers 1-8 on each successive sheet. What do I have to do to make this work in a mailmerge?

In data structures, a data structure is said to have sequential access if one can only visit the values it contains in one particular order. The canonical example is the linked list. Indexing into a list that has sequential access requires O(n) time, where n is the index. As a result, many algorithms such as quicksort and binary search http://mywebspider.com into bad algorithms that are even less efficient than their naive alternatives; these algorithms are impractical without random access. On the other hand, some algorithms, typically those that do not have index, require only sequential access, such as mergesort, and face no penalty.

Then, when you go to print, click on the “Setup” tab of the Print dialog, then check “Thumbnails” towards the bottom. Select the gang-up layout of the thumbnails from the associated drop-down list. Then print. Voila!!

This is a discussion on Sequential Numbering in a Word document within the Microsoft Office support forums, part of the Tech Support Forum category. I would like to add a field in a word document that will start at a certain number and count

Open your Layers window. If it is not already open, open it by going to (Window > Layers). Rename the layer with the placed pdf ‘Background’ and then create a new layer and name it ‘Numbering’. Lock the ‘Background’ layer. Then select the ‘Numbering’ Layer.

It’s easy to enter a SEQ field manually. Begin by pressing [Ctrl]+[F9]. When Word displays the blank field, enter seq list1, as shown in Figure A. List1 is a required argument; you can use any descriptive name you like as long as it begins with an alpha character. The parentheses distinguish the numbers within the text. They’re not part of the field code. Highlight the field code and press [F9] to display the field’s value. As you can see in Figure B, the first field returns (1).

Now I’m having multiple problems even if i see the sequential numbering in the form view under transaction_ID field, it does not “save” those numbers in the transaction_ID in passengertable but it shows up in the form view (passengerform).

Even though it looks like I clicked on the numbering button at the top, I did not. I applied the list number style. That style has different indents and a different font. Those are the settings in the List Number Style.

You can accomplish something similar by just entering 100 as the PONum for one record. .

Outline Numbering becomes much more powerful when you attach styles to each level. Styles provide the text formatting while outline numbering provides the numbering format. Together, you can save yourself a great deal of time.

In some cases, such as with numbered steps, you may want to restart numbering within the same story. To avoid restarting the numbered list manually, create a separate style that’s identical to the Level 1 style with one exception. For Mode, chose Start At, and then specify 1. Name this style something like “Level 1 Restart.”

OK, First, you need to reread the blog. You should NOT be storing the Transaction_ID. It is a calculated value. Second, your naming is what confused me. Your Passenger table should have an autonumber PassengerID. That PassengerID should be the Foreign Key in your Reservations table. Your servation table should also have an autonumber for ReservationID. I really don’t see why you need sequential numbering in the passenger table. I can understand it in the Reservations table, but not in the passenger table. Also, I don’t see any reason for a transaction date in the passenger table. I can understand a CreateDate for when the passenger signed up.

Under Advanced field properties, you should see the values highlighted below: the SEQ code, “int” as the Sequence Identifier, “* Arabic” for Arabic numerals, and “\n” to increment the numbers. Click OK to finish.

4. Add numbers by inserting the same identifier at another location. Alternatively, copy the first one, select it and press “F9” to update the display. As a third option, you can use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl-F9” and type “SEQ” and your identifier between the braces that appear. For instance, insert “{SEQ mynum}.” Press “F9” to update the field and enable the number to display.

Instead of a merge, use a page of labels with six SEQ fields set for different sequences and with an interval of 6. The first page would be your initial set of fields with numbering 1, 35, 69, 103, 137, and 171.

Type in a List Name. If you are going to be working with separate chapters in a book, uncheck Continue Numbers from Previous Document in Book. Click OK. (Note: you can update this dialog box after you have created your list via Type > Bullets & Numbering > Define Lists > [Your list name] > Edit.)
