TIP: This step inserts a new code at the top of the document, [Pg Num Set: 3001], and numbers the items consecutively from the new starting number by simply changing the starting “page” number. You can re-use this document In the future with different numbers by simply deleting this code and repeating step 5 with a new starting value. (Or simply double click the code in Reveal Codes to bring up the Values dialog.)

My quick process involves setting up a row of plaques with a01, a02, a03, thru a09. Then copy the plaques to the clipboard. Run the REPLACE TEXT feature to replace “a” with “1”. Move row down and paste clipboard back into page. Run REPLACE TEXT to replace “a” with “2”. Repeat until I get all the numbers. It’s faster than manually typing the numbers in but I know there’s go to be someway of automating the process.

I basically used Bob Levine’s method (thanks) but wanted to add some extra detail – am using CS2 which is somewhat behind CS3 in this area. I’m not sure what you’re doing – the ‘/’ should be ‘\’ and the very first ticket # should not have the ‘\c’. See the attached. It has the FILLIN field in the first SEQ field as described in my previous post. Simply press Ctrl-A, then F9, input a starting # and all the tickets will update.

I have done this twice now, getting flustered. The ticket part the person keeps has the correct sequential number on it, but the side that we keep has the same number on it for the whole page. What part am I missing, at first I did not uncheck the box, but this time I did but have the same number on the stub side that we keep with the person’s name, etc

Creating a sequential list of numbers, in Word, sounds like an intimidating task. Sure, you can create a numbered list quickly enough, but that feature works with additional text – you’re numbering something. If you want a list of just numbers, you have to work a bit harder. Once you’re finished with the design, go to the “Mailings” ribbon to start the mail merge. You’ll see that the “Update Labels” is grayed out. Change that by clicking on Start Mail Merge > Labels > Cancel.

2. Edit the Template to meet your needs. To replace a template graphic with your own, click the graphic to select it, then hit the ‘Delete’ key. The template graphic disappears. Thanks very much for your prompt reply, which reassured me that I was on the right path. From having read various Help topics, I suspected that I’d have to use an Excel data source for the numbers. Fortunately, my knowledge of Excel was good enough to know about the drag and drop facility to create automatic sequential numbering, so the data source creation was easy. In the end, it was the mail merge (no surprises?) which proved a tad tricky, http://ringringpromotions.org I got there in the end. I’ve used MM many times and quite happily in Word documents, but for Publisher label format, it was of course a bit different. The important bit that I had to discover for myself was the significance of, after getting to the Print stage, going into Print options, to Publication & Paper Settings, and selecting Multiple Pages per Sheet (& in my case, also “Single-sided” cos my default of duplex printing had come up). But TA-DA!  All is fine now. Thanks very much again.

In the example I explained, I was using a list, but did it with un-linked text boxes using “continue from previous number” and “continue numbers across stories.” I’m guessing that there is no way to tell InDesign that even though there are 4 text boxes on the page, that there are two different lists? I’d probably have to just create two threaded stories for that scenario to work.

Use CorelDraw to layout the raffle ticket template. You can use the label design tool (located under “Page Setup” on the “Layout” menu) to create a raffle ticket template. Now for the tricky bit. Mail Merges usually have the one ‘recipient’ per page. So Word won’t pick out the next number in your list until it gets to a new page. By default, it’ll print you four tickets on each page, all with the same number. Then a new page, all with the next number. Etc.

What you need to do is to find the appropriate Microsoft template and include the desired texts in the blanks available. The program then allows you to opt for the color of your choice .subsequently you can either save the template as a file or you can click on the print right away.

It is recommended that you provide the time and venue of the show unless you have a fixed location for the movies. By providing these details you will save yourself the stress of having to persuade watchers to pick up the movie tickets.

Create the sample label so that it has the word Exhibit followed by a merge field that represents the number being pulled from the Excel worksheet. Make sure the label contents are formatted the way you need them.

In trying to produce 300 tickets, I can get all of the first numbered position to be sequential over 100 pages. But, when moving down to the second or third ticket position on the page and setting up the numbering, I repeatedly find that I get a repeat of the first 100 numbers. I am lost as to how to proceed. Is there any other missing step or info that I am assumed to have knowledge about that was not mentioned above? Update the sequence of numbers of copied tickets by highlighting the number and clicking on the right button of your mouse. A drop-down menu will give you the option to update the field and the system will automatically update the number in sequence. Each ticket must be individually updated before printing.

I work for a real estate company and I have to cut 0-500 in various sizes and increments. Select the Rectangle Frame Tool (F) from the tools palette and drag a rectangle onto the page.
