If you work in a business where you need to sequentially number items, you might be wondering if there is a way you can use Word to create the labels for you. Word has many ways you can implement some type of numbering in your documents. For instance, you can use different fields for numbering, or use numbered lists, the captioning feature, or you can use mail merging. While all of these features (and more) use some type of numbering in them, they are not all well suited to creating labels.

I already created a background image (in EPS format, which is available to Vector Plus members in the download). Select the Rectangle Frame Tool (F) from the tools palette and drag a rectangle onto the page. Then click Command + D and locate the image (in this case an image that you chose to use as a background for the tickets).
After facilitating appropriate modifications, the number in the ticket series will automatically get updated by the system. Another key factor that you sequential numbering in word to bear in mind before clicking on the print option is to check whether the tickets are updated without any errors.
Open a new blank document in Word. Create two raffle ticket designs, one for the person who buys the ticket and one for the organization selling them. Make sure to connect the two tickets, for example by making them in two-cell tables, side-by-side. Include the name of the organization, perhaps the first prize, and any other information you want on the buyer’s ticket. You might, for example, include spaces for the buyer’s name (“Name__________”) and phone number on the organization’s ticket. On both tickets, enter a dummy number for the raffle ticket number as a placeholder.
Now, you need to make each row know to move to the next record. Basically, you on each ticket you want to first move to the next number before displaying any ticker numbers <>. To do this, select the space right before the first <> in your second raffle ticker. When you have that space selected, click on Insert Word Field > Next Record

1. On the first hand, you need to initiate Microsoft Publisher. You can view a magnifying glass icon and you need to hit inside the little field which shows Available Templates page. Now you should type the Word ‘tickets’ and move your cursor towards the magnifying glass icon. Hit on it. Subsequently you need to evaluate and assess the ticket options in the Microsoft Publisher. After that you can double click on the desired template. For example if you want to open the raffle ticket template just double click on it for the Publisher to open it for you.
Scissors aren’t recommended for cutting if you’re selling your tickets. You probably won’t get a straight cut out of them. Instead, a ruler and a craft precision knife can get you an even cut that looks like it was done professionally.
Hello Bruce, I seem to be having a different problem altogether. I created my ticket in word using logos and text boxes as needed, ticket looks great. I followed your very clear instructions but when I did the Finish & Merge I got this message, “You cannot include DATA, NEXT, NEXTIF, or SKIPIF fields in comments, headers, footers, footnotes or endnotes.” I then click on OK and get this, “A field calculation error occurred in record 1. Bruce any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Different Colors or Size: Our standard tickets are printed in black ink on yellow 90 lb index card stock. They measure 2 1/8? by 5 1/2? with the stub 1 1/2? from the left. We also offer White, Blue and Green card stock at no additional charge. If you would like your tickets printed in one of these colors just let us know in the “comments” section.
Yes, it is a pain to reprint one or two sheets if you have closed the file. I’ve learned to leave the file open on the desktop until the tickets are finished. This way if the perf, or cutter messes up I can easily reprint those ticket numbers without re-aligning the art & numbering.
Thank you again for your assistance. I took care of the text boxes and everything works quite well. I had some aggravating moments trying to figure out where the \* MERGEFORMAT switch was coming from; I kept deleting it and it kept coming back like a mosquito. I assume it had something to do with the text boxes. Anyway, the document is now a thing of beauty. Thank you.
I use a little program called “Number It” I purchased on E-bay a couple of years ago. It will print the ticket (from bmp file) and number on the Canon 3200 in one pass. BW or Color. Nice little program and well worth the $50-80 price.
If the numbers appear to be cut off, adjust the formatting and layout of your publication. For example, you may need to increase the size of the text box that contains the data field for your tracking number, or you might need to decrease the font size of the data field.
