Now, you can start putting images and text into here. But you can also insert the ticket number and inspirational quote in by inserting a Text Field. Clicking on those will add autofill textboxes into the merge area.
Chuck, It does look as though using data merge is the best way, but rather than generating the numbers in Excel here is an improved number generator script to create indesign number and counterfoil numbering data merge files. We recently had to print 500 numbered tickets 8 up on 8.5 x 11. When we took it back to Bindery they would have had to hand collate the tickets back in order after the cut.
If you are registered with your local authority to run a ‘small society lottery’, then you need to contact them in case they have specific terms and conditions you must adhere to. If you put back the date of the draw, it will need to take place as soon as practicably possible. You must make every attempt to notify those who have purchased tickets in the lottery/raffle of the change to the draw date. The notification may be through a number of channels including email, a telephone/text message, your website, a newsletter and your local newspaper.
I need to number 20,000 tickets in InDesign and have them in order when I cut them, I know there is a way to use data merge or something. I just can’t get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have been through this exact scenario. It’s a pain unless you can impose them for north-south stacking and cutting. I ended up having a local printer impose my single-page files, http://thedailyrant.net send me a print quality PDF at my desired page size, then we printed them, and sent them back to the printer to cut. Worked like a charm and I didn’t week trying to make it work.
I left the office and it was at around 83% done and it had taken 2 hours to get there. I’m going to have to set these up a few times a year for events and stuff like that and I need a better flow for any type of setup (4up, 3up, whatever up etc.).
Go to the very top of the document before all codes and click Format, Page, Insert Page Number. This time, do not click Insert (you already have page numbers in the document); instead, click the Value/Adjust button, and set the page number to whatever beginning value you desire, such as “3001”. Click OK (or Apply, then OK). Then click Close to close the “Insert Page Number” dialog and return to the document.
Perforate your tickets. Printed tickets are more uniform, so it works in your favour if you’re a little more professional with them. Perforating your tickets means you’ll be able to tear them each off quickly. Perforating tools are spindled wheels that poke holes evenly in a line. Run them between tickets like you would use a pizza cutting wheel. Cut your tickets out into rows and perforate the border between each ticket.

A raffle refers to a way of generating money by selling numbered tickets, then one or some of the sold tickets are drawn at random and the holder or holders of these tickets get to win a prize.
