Second, customize the raffle ticket so that it is specific to the event. There is enough space to include the top three raffle prizes along with the name of the organization and the event information. It is simple to add these details in Publisher.

The trick is this: I creat an ‘template’ of the card, somewhere outside of the page. All object for data are text object, with all the formating needed. In place of the photo is an rectangle. The script read an text file (CSV) with the database, duplicate all template object, one by one and replace string in text object with the string from DB and import photo in place of the rectangle, redimension and convert to RGB or CMYK, acording to the initial data (atach.) When the page is full, create another one.

Click Preview & Print to review your design. To make adjustments, just click the Customize button to go back to the Customize screen. When your design is complete, just click the Print button to create the PDF file. Open the file, and your tickets are ready to be printed.

The tickets were printed exactly as ordered and arrived on the day they were scheduled to. We are very happy again with the high quality nature of the printing and the material the tickets are printed on, even with choosing the least expensive options. We’ll be back next time we need tickets!

It appeared designed for variable numbers in one place. My customer needed her tickets numbered in two places, on the ticket and on the stub. Because she needs them tomorrow there is no time to send them out to be numbered manually. I’ll keep watching this space for more info. Thanks folks.

I am trying to create raffle tickets, 4 on a page with only a number on the stub. My problem is when I get to the print preview and change it to “multiple pages per sheet” it is just changing the number on the next page and not on the next ticket. I followed all the directions on adding the number to each ticket from the merge document (of course all the step by step information I can find is only for 2007 and NOT 2013 so guessing there is something wrong with what I am doing).  When I go into the print screen it is also changing my paper from 8 1/2 x 11 to 11 x 17 and putting 8 on the page.

Use the navigator on the right hand side and choose Edit All to make changes to all your tickets, such as changing the overall text style and size. Choose Edit One to make changes to individual tickets.

Is there a script out there that you can define the font, size and numbering sequence for Corel? I work for a real estate company and I have to cut 0-500 in various sizes and increments. Sometime the numbers will always end in a Letter (A) or even end with the same numer ( 5001, 5011, 5021, 5031) and so on.

Scissors aren’t recommended for cutting if you’re selling your tickets. You probably won’t get a straight cut out of them. Instead, a ruler and a craft precision knife can get you an even cut that looks like it was done professionally.[1]

Of course, there are third-party solutions that are available for creating sequentially numbered labels. One that comes highly recommended by several WordTips subscribers is Bates Labels from Payne Consulting (http://www.payneconsulting.com). My solution for this when trying to add a number on a page between already existing numbers where to usa a current text frame of the previous number and create a new list object from there. And then I would overset that text and press the overset +-sign to place it on the page. Works perfect.

i’ve had to do tons of this lately and found that for the amounts of tickets being done (e.g. 7000 x 10 tickets + cover & mailer) that chuckT’s solution almost 2 years ago is similar to what i use. would be interested to know if others doing similar VDP are using a wholly indesign/excel solution, or if specific VDP software such as XMPie are being used.

Our raffle ticket templates have a placeholder for a ticket number, usually “xxx” to remind you it needs to be replaced. Select it, click Insert Merge Field > Ticket. Do the same for the second ticket number placeholder. Most tickets will have two number placeholders because one part of the ticket is for the raffle host (you) and the other is for the purchaser.

Given that Word can support 2,147,483,647 SEQ fields, the whole job could be done in a single document containing 30,000 tickets. On my system, creating such a document took only a few minutes and, once created took about two minutes to update the fields – and that was with about 40,000 pairs of SEQ fields coded as {SEQ Ticket \# 00000} and {SEQ Ticket \c \# 00000}. This number formatting is enough to go to 99,999 tickets.

You need to create a list of numbers using some method (maybe even through VBA) as a text file, database or other data source, then just insert merge field in the document and use Print Merge to generate multiple labels with different numbers in it. Zoom into the tickets where you have placed the text for the numbering and click on the data merge palette. This should be open already since we already called in the data file in Step 11. Place the text cursor behind the last letter of your text. Then click on the text data file (100.txt) in the Data Merge Palette.

While you don’t want to waste anyone’s time intentionally, it may be helpful to contact a few places. It’s possible you’ll be able to snag a better deal if the company is open to wholesale bargaining.

Is this quite beyond InDesign CS3? If it is solvable the solution isn’t mentioned in any CS3 book I have managed to get hold of, nor is it dealt with in the CS3 Help facility as far as I can see, nor were the speakers at a recent Adove CS3 Workshop able to solve it. Please advise this frustrated book author! Being the printer, I can’t say I pass the job on to the printer.:-) We do it using auto page numbering, export it as one big pdf, and then use our imposition program to lay the file up multiple times on a page. A lot of jobs we do leave the number blank, and use the numbering machine later, but we’re getting more and more jobs that are run on digital presses like the Docucolor 250 and have numbers too small for the numberer, so we have to do them in the file. This works fine for single-sided jobs, but when a job numbers on one side, but not the other, it gets tricky, especially if it’s NCR, which has to be duplexed.

If you are making the tickets ten-up you can put everything on a master page. Make the ticket number [Page Number][digit 0–9] then fill with pages based on that master. Page 1 will be tickets 10–19, page 29 will be tickets 290–299, etc.

If you need leading zeros then just format the column as text. The ticket numbering problem seems solved, if awkwardly. But what about linking automatic numbering of text references to a figure (e.g. “see fig.101″) to a legend of that figure (e.g. 101 shows.”)?

Remember that you must update the values in the sheet if you want to continue the numbering series with the next batch of tickets. For instance, if you want your next batch of tickets to start with 112, you’d open the workbook and change the value 100 to 112, and update the remaining values accordingly. Don’t forget to save the workbook after updating the values.

(CS2 also has an paragraph numbering feature, but it’s not nearly as powerful.) First, create a numbering “list” by choosing Type > Bulleted & Numbered Lists > Define Lists. That would make sense, but there’s a catch: Autonumbered paragraphs on a master page don’t update until you override them. That is, you have to Command/Ctrl-Shift-click on them to make them “kick in” and update to the correct number.
