Am I the only individual here who is using CS3, and trying the method described, only to find that my version (5.0.2) for the mac doesn’t have the options anywhere that the author suggests? I have spent the past 2 hours trying to find the same screenshots the author has, only to become reall discouraged. Perhaps he is using a windows version that is setup differently?

I’d like to share my solution. It came to me partially in my sleep, I tried refining it this morning but because of time, finally had my production person print the manually numbered tickets so that we could deliver them to the customer who needed them today. Here is my solution. I deduced that it would be better to let a program designed to count, do the counting. I used Excel. I then let InDesign CS4 do the merging. Here’s the formula.
I also use InDesign. An Excel file for numbering is easy to create. Then find DataMerge under Automate to link the data file. When you are ready to export, use the create PDF right on the Datamerge window. You can print as cut / stack on the Fiery (or CREO). REMEMBER - if your customer wants them stapled into books of 6 (for example) each stack has to be divisible by 6 if you are going to staple then cut into individual books.

You need to create a list of numbers using some method (maybe even through VBA) as a text file, database or other data source, then just insert merge field in the document and use Print Merge to generate multiple labels with different numbers in it. (just need to give it enough space to fit the longest string along as many lines as you think there could be) If I reserve space for 50 chars and the major strings are 25 chars, the result is not professional looking. My solution for all print merge for ID cards (and similarities, incl. Auto numbering) is to merging data BEFORE printing, in an CDR file with all pages. So, I check all the cards and I correct only on text object how need. So we came up with a way that when each stack was cut they would simply be stack on top of each other. We couldn’t figure out a way to add 8 sets of grouped numbers to 8-up layout so I had to go into the txt file and number it manually. It worked fine but took a little time. Is there an option to pull 8 different sets of numbers to one page? You saved my life! I work at a School Board with 200+ schools and 100+ departments and I have to number every ticket I make.
This program makes you adept for not only creating event tickets but also generating attractive resumes and different menus. What you need to do is to find the appropriate Microsoft template and include the desired texts in the blanks available. The program then allows you to opt for the color of your choice .subsequently you can either save the template as a file or you can click on the print right away.

I would like to number a voucher book, i have place 4 vouchers on a page, the thing is that i want each of these vouchers to start with different number, 100, 200, 300, 400, and then i want to number them 99 times. The problem is that they have to be numbered only 1 per page, so that when i have printed them all i can easily crop them and staple them right up with having to go through it all.

Chuck, It does look as though using data merge is the best way, but rather than generating the numbers in Excel here is an improved number generator script to create indesign number and counterfoil numbering data merge files. We recently had to print 500 numbered tickets 8 up on 8.5 x 11. When we took it back to Bindery they would have had to hand collate the tickets back in order after the cut.
In the past such a situation would make one get worried both in terms of the approach and the cost to be incurred for one to generate as many raffle tickets as possible. Hi - are you creating your own tickets using the instructions on this page? If so, you can of course change the font and everything else in your Word document. If you are using the Raffle Ticket Creator app (app.raffleticketcreator.com) then you can't change the font size ... you'll just need to tinker with the exact words that you are including in order to get them to fit on the page.
