Publisher doesn’t allow for automated sequencing, with the exception of the numbers that come on the tickets in the template. Each ticket must be hand-typed unless you choose to follow the template sequencing.
Though you are trying to make sure that you have the best movie ticket template you should customize it to suit the movie that one is going to watch. This will help to match the expectations of those buying them and this might see many coming back for another session. You could attain this more easily by taking a photo of a high or intense moment in the movie to be shown. Now repeat for the second and third tickets. But not the fourth, because that’s at the end of the page, so Word will skip to the next number anyway, because the next page always gets the next item in your merge list. Your document should look like this:
Your finished file can then be printed on most inkjet or laser printers. After printing you can easily separate the tickets which are micro-perforated or hand out to team members to sell by the sheet or let them separate the raffle tickets as they are sold.
Getting Word to put a unique number on each raffle ticket is easy enough, but persuading Word to print out several uniquely-numbered raffle tickets per sheet of paper is very hard (I think it is impossible, actually. At least I couldn’t figure it out. UPDATE: I did figure it out. Instructions for printing raffle tickets using Microsoft Word are here.). And you don’t really want to have every raffle ticket use up a whole sheet of paper.
The four templates with automatic serial numbering are quite nice and one of them will most likely be suitable for your needs. You can edit them as well. If you’re going to do that, save the original template separately. Doing so will give you a fresh template, in case you need one.

Print using a template. If you’re printing over a computer, you don’t need to design the tickets from scratch. There are templates specifically designed for raffle draws. Look up one of these templates and print rows and columns of them onto as many printer sheets as you need. You can take the image and type the necessary information as needed via a Word processor. Print off a sheet and have it ready.
You can use Microsoft Office Publisher, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Access, Microsoft Office Outlook, or Microsoft Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager to create a data source for your mail merge project. If you want to create a large list of unique, sequential numbers to use as tracking codes for gift certificates or coupons, however, you can use Excel to quickly generate this list.
Now, you can start putting images and text into here. But you can also insert the ticket number and inspirational quote in by inserting a Text Field. Clicking on those will add autofill textboxes into the merge area.
It appeared designed for variable numbers in one place. My customer needed her tickets numbered in two places, on the ticket and on the stub. Because she needs them tomorrow there is no time to send them out to be numbered manually. I’ll keep watching this space for more info. Thanks folks.
Before you complete the merge, preview the merge results to make sure that the tracking numbers will display as you want them to in your publications. You can preview the merge in two ways: While you are refining the layout to review the layout of the individual coupon or gift certificate, or when you are getting ready to print, to preview the arrangement of coupons or gift certificates on the printed sheet.
Now you are ready to begin inserting your data. To make everything easier, please be sure to have your Mail Merge Toolbar visible. You can enable it by going to Tools > Letters and Mailings > Show Mail Merge Toolbar (displayed in step 3 of this document)
If your tickets don’t require sequential numbering, you can find more templates at RaffleTicketTemplates.org. The tickets there are more the standard fare. They have different sizes, layouts, and downloads for both Microsoft Word and Corel Draw.
If you are making the tickets ten-up you can put everything on a master page. Make the ticket number [Page Number][digit 0–9] then fill with pages based on that master. Page 1 will be tickets 10–19, page 29 will be tickets 290–299, etc.
Nicole – I’m not sure. Are the page and margin settings (from step 1) definitely correct? If each ticket was a little too big, so that only two tickets could be fitted on each http://sl-inworld.com of paper, that might create the problem you’ve experienced. Other than that, I’m baffled …
If the second number on your raffle ticket is one higher than the first number, you must have accidentally put the <> tag after the first number (causing the next number, on the same ticket, to increase by one). You only need the <> after the second number on each ticket, so the next ticket gets a new number. (But you don’t need it on the final ticket on the **page**, because the next **page** automatically gets a new number)
