i’ve had to do tons of this lately and found that for the amounts of tickets being done (e.g. 7000 x 10 tickets + cover & mailer) that chuckT’s solution almost 2 years ago is similar to what i use. be interested to know if others doing similar VDP are using a wholly indesign/excel solution, or if specific VDP software such as XMPie are being used.
I want to load one colour of stock in one tray and the other colour of stock in the other tray. When I print I want to be able to print one form on the blue and then the pink so that the stock comes out of the machine colllated. In other words, I want Form 001 to print on the pink and then Form 001 to print on the blue, Form 002 to print on the pink and Form 002 to print on the blue and so on.
Shrinkwrap is a thin, plastic wrapping designed to group the items you order into desired quantities. Additionally, it helps your order arrive in tip-top condition because it reduces rubbing during shipping. It is called “shrinkwrap” because after the plastic is placed around each bundle, it is shrunk with gentle heat for a better fit.

You’ll need to merge two documents: the Publisher document, or ticket, and an Excel workbook that contains the numbers you want to use to number those tickets. Please don’t let the term mail merge intimidate you. Merging a Publisher document to generate sequential numbers is easy.
You say “I would struggle to train my employees to follow this numbering scheme” – well, that IS the problem! You struggle to feed the goose with plutonium – but the poor bird works with corn! In my practice (management systems consultant that is) I’ve learned that ppl are the ones that can build a system that works. Not the boss!
If you try to set up a numbering scheme to do this, you will notice that your number disappears when you press ENTER to type the text or the text may seem off-center. The following exercise walks you through centering text beneath a number.
TIP: Version Control numbers differ from the FileHold automatic versioning system. With FileHold automatic versioning, every time a document is checked out from the document management system, it becomes a candidate for automatic version control. The automatically generated version numbers start at 1, or optionally 0 for offline documents, and are incremented by 1 each time the document is checked in. Version control numbers allows managers to track the history of a document as it evolves; it records the date when the version was changed and by whom.

Using properly a standrd usualy solves 99% of problems. Not doing that generates “new revolutionary methods” of doing what one is supose to do in the first place (see “agile” and PMBok; PMBok states that a PM should manage team, time and change requirements in most efective and efficient way – using various tools. Most PM’s dont do that – so they invented agile!)
Enter the total number of rows that fit in the detail section of the document’s middle pages when you print a document with more than two pages. You specify this value so that the system calculates the total number of pages used to print a document. If you do not complete this field, the system uses the value that you enter in the Detail Section Total Number of Rows field as the number of rows for the first page.
