Running captions number figures, tables, and other items consecutively in a document. For example, the first figure caption starts with the words “Figure 1,” the second with “Figure 2,” and so on. To make sure that figures, tables, or similar items are numbered consecutively, define a list for the item, and then create a paragraph style that includes the list definition. You can also add descriptive words such as “Figure” or “Table” to the numbering scheme of the paragraph style.

      Well, there you have it. CorelDRAW has finally chosen to fall in with the rest of the software world and force users to be legal. This may seem a little harsh in tone, but this is really what they are doing. For some of you out there, the time has come for you to “pay the piper” if you choose to upgrade to a new version of CorelDRAW. To its credit, Corel will now be allowing multi-user discounts for those installs where there are a number of users. Is it right? Sorry, but yes it is. Most other software programs already have the same ELUA and TOS. Corel really is finally putting their proverbial foot down and saying, “We are going to control this in terms of each user having their own license.” If you are one of those people who buys one copy and installs it on ten computers in your office, then you will not be allowed to do this once you have upgraded to X6.1 or higher.


Multi-level numbering is quite easy, once you’ve figured out how to do it. I am using InDesign CS4 to write a technical dissertation, and it works great with my multi-level headings, such as “3.4.1 Partial Transient…”, and figures and tables throughout each section (or chapter). I do have the whole document in one file, but it’s not too large since the images are all linked.
Choose the figure number paragraph style in the list on the left, and the specific figure you’re pointing at in the list on the right. Then set the Format to Paragraph Number — after all, there’s no text in the paragraph; you just want its “number.” Don’t forget to set Appearance to Invisible so that you don’t have incredibly ugly black rectangles all over your document.
Currently I’m struggling with figure numbering. I suppose there is some very easy solution to my problem and just have wasted too much time trying to find it myself. I use paragraph style for my figures, just the way you explained it. I don’t use cross-reference though. I don’t need it right now. I have similar problem as Giles. Every time I change an order of my figures, but within one, the same page, their order number doesn’t update and I don’t see any option neither to change it manually nor update it automatically. What am I missing?

Cons: Its old-school nature of user experience, however, means some of its features are kind of unintuitive to use for modern vector-handling, and also making it sometimes slow to work with. Since it is primarily confined to the Windows ecosystem also makes it difficult to work with files on another operating system unless you export it to another open standard for vectors. On top of that, the full price is far too much, considering Inkscape, being free, has a similar interface and can practically do 70% of what Corel can do. The subscription fee, while helpful, also isn't appealing, since professional illustrators would instead opt to get Affinity Designer instead.
   For most of us, once we have upgraded, we never take the time to see exactly what was updated in the software. I must admit, I can be guilty of clicking on the update button with little regard for what is being installed on my system. Sometimes I upgrade CorelDRAW or other software updates and never really look at what has been changed or fixed within the service pack. I just assume it is better.
Microsoft's Word and Publisher tools are applications, which are sometimes used for similar tasks, including typing and editing text and placing, cropping, resizing and rotating images. Does this mean we have two MS Office tools serving the same purpose? No it doesn't, Word and Publisher were designed to provide solutions for specific types of documents and content. Therefore, you need to select which application is more relevant for your specific desktop publishing (DTP) requirements.
If you have Office professional, it comes with MS Publisher. I use that for newsletters and flyers as it’s much easier to control where the text and photos appear. You’d still need to export it as a .pdf, otherwise most people wouldn’t be able to read it. And even if they had MS Publisher, they would still need to have the same fonts installed for it to look the same.
If you’re like most designers, you spend a significant amount of time picking just the right font, including previewing the way it appears in different parts of your layout. So you’re going to be very happy about a new method of previewing and selecting fonts. Plus, InDesign CC 2019 introduces a new font type that supports glyphs with colors and gradients.
This InDesign Documents from the exercise files called 4C_arthistory has 241 pages in it.…I can tell that by looking in the lower left corner of the Pages panel, were it…says 241 pages, in a 121 spreads.…Now this document, a book has various sections in it.…For example, the Opening section is the front matter.…And my introduction should have page numbers, but they should be in Roman Numerals.…Can I do that? Absolutely!…I can break my document up into sections and change the page numbering of those…sections by using the Numbering & Section Option dialog box.…
Using Emoji fonts, you can include various colorful and graphical characters, such as smileys, flags, street signs, animals, people, food, and landmarks in your documents. Of course, you can’t just type an emoji inside InDesign, so to insert them, you can copy and paste them from another program, or double-click them inside the Glyphs panel (Type > Glyphs).
Pros: CorelDRAW is a software that I started using years ago out of curiosity, the design caught my attention and I had the opportunity to learn the basics of the program and with basic saying I mean a great variety of applications, it is a complex program but I consider it very valuable to learn it to use. Despite not being an expert I have been able to develop designs that have complemented various activities, such as the design of the logo of the degree promotion. The quality offered by this program undoubtedly deserves recognition. Undoubtedly CorelDraw is synonymous with perfection

Ha! Thank you Anne-Marie for confirming that this is the way to do it. To not be able to reference the current section number in a numbered paragraph style, when you can do it in a footer is so mind-bogglingly irrational. I’d already worked out the work-around you suggest, but fear that some of the chapters of the project I’m working on may need way too many duplicate sets of figure-reference styles for the solution to be at all elegant. As I’m only at the very start of what will be a two-year project I thought I’d hunt for a more logical solution – I’m amazed that this issue was discussed back in 2010 and that oh-so-simple section marker in paragraph numbering is still not available in December 2014! Maybe we all need to chip in a bit more to Adobe so they can add a few more of their “just do it” feature requests!
For example, you could have a single style that adds Space Below and Space After a paragraph, and then change this “space between” setting to zero points. If you apply this to a group of five paragraphs, the first paragraph would have space before, the last paragraph would have space after, and none of these paragraphs would have space added between them.
We'll work with the existing heading styles. When applying this technique to your own documents, you can modify the heading styles to reflect the properties you need—you're not stuck with the default settings. If, however, the built-in heading styles are already in use because you're working with an existing document, you'll have to create new styles. Avoid this route when possible. We'll be changing properties for the numbering scheme and not the actual heading styles.

Overall: I have used coreldraw for laser-printing various things and I have been able to make very basic use of the software due to my relatively limited exposure to it. Coworkers who have been using it for months on end can easily navigate the software but I find myself having to use the help tabs and google much more often than I would like for a design software. This is definitely a higher skill platform but is VERY powerful once you get used to it.

One of the most common issues is related to the image quality. For example, if you download an image from the internet, such as a wallpaper, it will be good for viewing on your screen but not for printing. Most of the images on the internet are low-quality (for example 72 dpi or 96 dpi), because it makes uploading the images to the web faster. But this resolution is not good for printing, because the image will be "pixelated" with jagged edges and the printed result will be bad.
On measurements… I’ve made a fortune fixing all the poorly crafted jobs of people who don’t use picas and points. When you size type you use points – I can honestly say I RARELY run across situations where type in a file is sized in inches or metrically. It makes more sense to use one system of measurement of an entire document. Points are a sub unit of picas and beyond that you can be much more precise – 72 points in an inch (not even getting into half or quarter points) can you tell me what 1/72 of an inch is in a decimal value off the top of your head? Likely not. Then again I keep seeing layouts where the width of a text box is along the lines of 4.5839″ by 6.2991″ – you keep doing your sloppy work and I’ll keep making money. And when you can’t figure out why things look slightly off in your design in terms of spacing of elements or alignments, tell me once again how picas and points are so very arcane.
For example, imagine that we start a job with 2 colors, Blue and Yellow. Instead of applying these colors to each individual object, it is better to create two Color Styles and apply these to the objects (to create a new color style, select the object and right-click and choose > Color Styles > New from Selected…), If you need to use shades of each color (such as 10% of Blue, 20%, 30%, etc) you can choose "Create Gradient" on the same Color Styles docker (Window > Dockers > Color Styles), or (CTRL+F6).

One of the harder things to do in Adobe InDesign, surprisingly for a page layout tool, is to create multilevel or outline format numbered lists.  The right way to accomplish this, according to the folks at Adobe, is to create a Style for every level of the list you’d like to have!       Again, as I have mentioned in numerous articles about CorelDRAW, the bottom line is: Is it worth the upgrade? Is it worth it to pay significantly more money to get the latest version? I think some of you will definitely need to think harder about that. As some of you are aware, I am not a big fan of how the recognition and identification industry has to take a back seat in terms of features that Corel makes available. Maybe this will change with the new policy but then again, maybe not. If everyone has to pay, then maybe they will finally bring some specific features to our industry that we need to make our workflow a lot easier and more efficient.

For my workflow, I decided to turn off Check Links Before Opening Document in the File Handling pane of the Preference dialog. Yes, sometimes I do have the imported files, but in those cases I don’t move the files. And I have to check the links before output anyway. Anything you can do to make opening documents more seamless is nice, so check out this preference and others in this area.

What's happens if we need several different names on our business cards? If they were only two, we could duplicate the page contents (Layout > Duplicate page), but if we want to create several pages, the best way is to create a Master Layer. To do this, select the logo and background, and choose Edit > Cut (or CTRL + X). Then, go to the Object Manager docker (Window > Dockers > Object Manager), and there choose from the docker menu "New Master Layer - All pages". Or we can click on the New Master Layer (all pages) icon at the bottom of the Object Manager docker.

Adobe has changed the name of Typekit to Adobe Fonts. However, it still appears as Typekit in some programs, such as Photoshop, which will undoubtedly cause some confusion for a while. But the confusion goes deeper than just branding. After all, the font called Adobe Garamond is an “Adobe font,” because it was designed and developed by Adobe. But hundreds of other fonts were designed and developed by other non-Adobe font foundries, and only licensed to be distributed through Typekit. Unfortunately, those are now also called “Adobe Fonts.” So when you’re talking with someone about “Adobe Fonts,” you need to be clear whether you’re referring to the fonts from Adobe or “the service formerly known as Typekit.”
As I mentioned above, you can now convert footnotes to endnotes and endnotes to footnotes in your document. To convert footnotes and endnotes, choose Type > Convert Footnote and Endnote. In the dialog box, you can specify whether you want to convert all the endnotes and footnotes in your document or only from the selection. Also, when importing Word or RTF files, there is now an option to place Word endnotes as static notes. Choosing static notes imports endnotes the way they were imported in InDesign CC 2017 before InDesign’s own endnote feature was introduced.
Pros: I know that everyone else in the world uses the Adobe suite of programs from graphic design, but I've been using CorelDraw for years and find it infinitely preferable. The layout of the program and the way various tools work I find to be much more straight forward and intuitive. What I can do in InDesign or Illustrator I can usually do in half the time, in Corel Draw.
   So why am I breaking with tradition and reviewing what has been updated? Well, there are some new features that have been released with the service packs but there is also one very important change that was released with service pack 1 (X6.1) that we need to talk about. This change relates to the terms of the CorelDRAW end user license agreement (EULA). This change that Corel has introduced and the way you install the program could cost you some extra money if you upgrade to this service pack or future versions of the software.

   If you are a shop that relies on one version of CorelDRAW and it is installed on multiple computers, you may be in for a surprise and added expense if you update to a service pack 6.1 or higher, or if you decide that when a new version of CorelDRAW comes out, you want to upgrade and install one license on a number of computers. For example, if you usually have four people working at the same time on their own computers, then each version on each computer will require its own license. I know that a lot of shops have the same version of CorelDRAW on multiple computers. So, when upgrade time comes you could be in for a significantly higher cost.

We'll begin with a tour of the new and improved user interface to get you comfortable in your environment, then it's onto the basics of creating publications from scratch. CorelDRAW, when launched will poll the Windows default printer for information specific to the device. It will seek information pertaining to the printers capabilities, such as color capabilities, printable area, duplexing options and others. If a communication problem exists between the printer and the application, a failure to create a new document, or open an existing file may occur. This is particularly true with laptops removed from the network which use a network printer as the Windows default. Other problems may occur which result in random errors or reduced performance if there is a problem with the default printer. To determine if the printer is at fault, install a generic PostScript printer driver and set it as the Windows default printer (a color Apple LaserWriter will suffice). Once installed, check to see if the problems persist. For information on how to install a printer in Windows 2000 or XP, please consult the Windows help files.

This is part of the Page Setup, but it's an important step. After defining the page size, you should choose the inside and outside page margins. Inside margins, because it's not good to place text or objects near the edge of page ̶ it's not just about the aesthetics or design visuals ̶ even if there is little difference when cutting and it's not noticeable that there is a margin around the inside.

I use cross-reference in my text which is works perfectly. but always I have had big problem when I wanted to put several Figures in parenthesis. simply I want to write for example (Figs 2-3 and 2-4) instead of Fig 2-3 and Fig 2-4). as you know I can delet Fig and write by hand Figs but as soon as I update the fields all the fig will come back and makes like (Figs Fig 2-3 and Fig 2-4). I hope some of you can help me to solve the problem

Hello, I am having way too much trouble with Indesign to the point I just hate this program. I changed the visualization of the document in preferences like you said to high quality but the document which is from Illustrator still looks like crap when before it looked good. Also, the option in object that also says to change the visual quality is greyed out and I have no clue why aor how to change it. Getting desperate here, please help!
When making an index for Japanese text, the yomi for index entries in the Topic Level box should be entered in the Yomi box using full-width hiragana and katakana. It is not necessary to input the yomi for full-width hiragana, katakana, alphanumeric characters, some symbols, half-width alphanumeric characters, or index entries that only have symbols in the Yomi box. Entries input in the Topic Level box are sorted. In some cases, when full-width and half-width symbols are mixed in an entry, sorting may not take place as expected. An appropriate, yomi should be entered in these cases.
