CorelDraw is quite expensive to purchase outright. This makes it difficult for an independent user to justify such a large expenditure unless the software is used frequently. For most students, grad students or researchers who lack a big software budget, open-source applications may do the job just as well. But if you need a pro-grade tool that can handle any task, then you'll do well to purchase CorelDraw.

Regarding the display settings, InDesign users who are still using CS6 or earlier will often take a serious performance hit by setting “Display Performance” to “High-Quality Display” if they have any high-res raster images or complex vector graphics. I assume that this is due to there not being a 64-bit version of InDesign before CC. Even if you have a high-end machine, 32-bit programs can’t utilize all of your system’s resources. And even with the 64-bit CC version, you’ll have performance issues if you use enough high-res/complex graphics in one document. Unlike Photoshop and Illustrator CC, InDesign has no option to use graphical hardware acceleration – i.e. it can’t use a dedicated graphics card, so all of the computations have to be run through the CPU; this too can bottleneck it’s performance.


   When you purchase a software program, you are generally given a license to use that software. Typically, this license gives you the ability to install the software on one, two or three computers, depending on the terms of the license. When I talk about installing CorelDRAW on a computer or computers, I am talking about using the license of the Corel software.
Publisher's greatest weakness is its lack of graphic design tools. Where other desktop publishing packages let you craft logos or touch up photographs, Microsoft Publisher supports neither. Instead, it sticks to simpler effects such as 3D extrusions, bevels and basic quickshapes. The Capitalize dialog box provides a global solution for editing the capitalization of index entries so that you don’t have to edit entries one by one. My point is, if you (like myself) often work with large and/or highly complicated graphics, you may want to hold off on changing any global “Display Performance” settings and instead adjust the quality on a per-graphic basis. If you do change the global settings to “High-Quality Display” and start to notice the program lagging a bit, you should turn down the display settings of each graphic (starting with the largest) to “Typical Display” until that lag goes away. If you want to see a preview of what your graphics will ultimately look like use the “Presentation” (Shift+W) preview. Hope these tips help!


Originally, I had an other problem as well. The first no on a level 2-numbering refered to the section and not to the chapter. I had a book with 2 parts and 3-5 chapters in each part. The numbering then all started on 1 in book-part 1 and all on two in book-part 2, (i.e. figures in book-part 2 chapter 4 all numbered 2.1). I got around that by creating 8 dokuments/book parts for my 8 chapters, but if someone knows how to fix this properly Í’m eager to hear about it!

Hello, I am having way too much trouble with Indesign to the point I just hate this program. I changed the visualization of the document in preferences like you said to high quality but the document which is from Illustrator still looks like crap when before it looked good. Also, the option in object that also says to change the visual quality is greyed out and I have no clue why aor how to change it. Getting desperate here, please help!

      For future installs and if you have updated with service packs, you now fall under the new terms of service and you need to get registered. Everything you do from now on is controlled by your new membership. This membership is created and locked to the e-mail account you use. So when you do register, make sure you use an e-mail address that you intend to keep and that you regularly receive e-mails with. Do not select a fake one or one you never use.

As is often the case with Office, knowing the right setting to use and where to find it is the key. In this article, we'll take a basic look at Word's numbering feature and then move on to two common problems—indents and alignment—that are easy to solve if you know where to look and how to alter the setting to get the results you want.


For example, imagine that we start a job with 2 colors, Blue and Yellow. Instead of applying these colors to each individual object, it is better to create two Color Styles and apply these to the objects (to create a new color style, select the object and right-click and choose > Color Styles > New from Selected…), If you need to use shades of each color (such as 10% of Blue, 20%, 30%, etc) you can choose "Create Gradient" on the same Color Styles docker (Window > Dockers > Color Styles), or (CTRL+F6).
I never place .eps files. I place the native .ai files instead and haven’t had a problem. I prefer points and picas, but that’s just my choice. I remember the olden days in college with fondness…when we actually learned about points and picas and drew letters with pencil on tracing paper to learn about line spacing, word spacing, and kerning. Our fonts were Helvetica, Bodoni, Garamond, and (oops, too vintage here…I forget). Type On!

Cons: A big handicap that corel has is the fact that it is not easy to learn or streamlined at all, for you to even create basic designs you need not only to learn every command it has but also to learn how they all work, and in some cases just using one basic command requires more than 5 steps, It is an excellent software but you will need to invest a lot of time to master ir.

If we send the file to Print (File > Print or CTRL+P), notice that one card per sheet appears. But if we go to File > Print Preview, we can perform an Imposition (the second tool on the left), as well as set the gutter distance between the cards. Overall: In 1997, when I was using a x486 PC, I did SO much with this program! I did dozens of flyers for my business, for more than 5 years. I designed and sent to press a video tape sleeve for a show we produced. I made all the chyrons for the TV show! We made PoP signs for the retail shop, we made files for banners and sent them to a sign maker.!
Note  If TAB and SHIFT+TAB do not work for changing the indents for outline numbering, you probably have the option Tabs and Backspace set left Indent turned off. To change this setting, from the Tools menu, choose Options. Select the Edit tab and check the option Tabs and backspace set left indent. As an alternative to turning this option on, you can instead use ALT+SHIFT+LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW to increase or decrease outline numbering.

Have a customer that creates pricebooks for JohnDeer Dealers in excel then converts with acrobat & uploads them to a website. He got a virus forcing us to wipe and reload his PC. Reinstalled the same exact version of excel & everything else. But now when he opens his old excel files that he works in. The Fonts are tiny in some of his tables/cells. He has called me over and over again. I have told him to try decreasing his resolution or increasing the percentage size of items. & to check if some auto size font feature in excel is checked or unchecked. I am at a loss what else to tell him. I came across this website & The notion that maybe he used to have a special font that was lost in the wipe n reload. Is there a way to dissect one of his xls files to find out if they are calling for a font name we no longer have and it is being substituted for a different font by excel that is much smaller.

By default, bullets and numbers inherit some of their text formatting from the first character in the paragraph to which they’re attached. If the first character in one paragraph is different from the first characters in other paragraphs, the numbering or bullet character may appear inconsistent with the other list items. If this is not the formatting you desire, create a character style for numbers or bullets and apply it to your list by using the Bullets And Numbering dialog box.
